"api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing"

KaiserV1

So, I just updated iTunes and it went to s***. Now when I want to open it there's a pop up that says "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing". First thing I do is uninstall everything completely and reinstall, but no luck. I have no idea what I'm doing, by the way. So I'm just blindly installing programs hoping it will get fixed.

People told me to do a Windows Update scan and remove one of the updates, but it's been scanning for like an hour now. So I'm not sure if it's supposed to take that long or my Windows is just completely messed up. Any help? I'm completely lost lol.

Go into cmd prompt as an admin and type sfc /scannow

this will search and repair missing or currupt system files. I assume you rebooted? That would be the first thing to try.

api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll

type that in as search in your pc searchbox

if it finds it copy to folder that needs it

you will have to websearch what folder that is

sometimes dynamic and symbiotic links are broken during an update

I think you are missing or it was missed installed (by iTune setup), Visual C++ Redistributable file Visual Studio 2017.

Here is a direct download it:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/3/F/93FCF1E7-E6A4-478B-96E7-D4B285925B00/vc_redist.x64.exe

1- Make sure that iTunes isn't running partally on the back (see Task Manager)

2- Download it, and run it.

3- Click on "Install". Once done, now start iTunes.  If you have "Uninstall" option, click on it instead, wait for it to do its things, once done, restart the setup, and now click on "Install".

This should work.

If not, then uninstall iTunes, re-download it, and install it again.

It says it's already installed. Should I look for that update in the control panel and uninstall it?

Yes. Sorry, I was going by memory on what I said before. I through it would ask you to uninstall it, if it detected it.

I uninstalled both "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005" in hopes it would proceed with the installation but nope. I messed up didn't I? I also read online you should look for an update and delete it, but I also couldn't find it in the "installed updates" tab.

lol. Now you did :) It's ok, and I don't blame you.

All these "Microsoft Visual C++ <year>"  are a collection of DLL (libraries) that a program develop under that specific version of Visual Studio uses. Developer can choose to include these DLLs in such a way that it doesn't need this extra thing to be installed, buuuut laziness. Well, ok, the idea is that it allows the libraries to be updated by Microsoft in the case there is a security issue, crossing their fingers that all their implementation are perfect, so that something doesn't stop working. But in the other hand, it makes the user life annoying at times, and makes the Programs & Feature panel a mess of all different version of "Microsoft Visual C++..." to cover all the versions if you install multiple games and programs.

So to undo what you did, I don't know the exact version you removed, so here are all of them for the 2005 version:

Simply download and run the setup this setup: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=3387  (2005 32-bit)

And after this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/Download/confirmation.aspx?id=21254 (2005 64-bit)

And then after this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=18471 (2005 SP1 32-bit)

And then this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=5638 (2005 SP1 64-bit)

(order doesn't actually matter. If you remember which version you removed, just download and run the setup of that one only.. it doesn't hurt installing all of them)

Alright, done, thank you :) Now what? I'm on the Windows Update tab and it's taking forever. I don't know what else to do anymore
