Ultrawide - holding out?

tgrmst

I'm in the process upgrading/rebuilding my system and I am close to being done. I got a 1080 ti FE and would like to complete the setup with a 34" ultrawide.

I mostly game, but I might get into content creation/video editing in the future so 34" would be nice.

The problem I am facing is whether I should wait for a good deal on the Acer x34 or the ASUS ROG 34" for their GSYNC

OR

just say forget it with GSYNC and go with a LG 34UC88 and save about $300-$400...

I can wait a bit longer and it would probably be smarter overall to wait for new models to come out and see the x34 or ROG 34" drop in price, but I wouldn't know when that would be.

How much gaming do you do? And what kind of games?

As for new models - we do not know if/when new models come out and with what kind of functionality/specs.

Main question is, if you think the G-Sync feature is worth the additional cost for you.

I would say minor/casual is my current state of gaming. But I do want to have a good monitor that can use power of 1080ti to its limit.

I have a 1080p 23" monitor so going to 34" UW would be a jump already. The 1080ti is killing everything on max at 60hz, so everything looks good at 1080p.

Games: Hitman, Mass Effect, Diablo 3, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Wildlands, Fallout 4, Skyrim

i have a freesync 80hz panel and i can tell you with a card like the 1080 ti you wont notice too much of a difference because as frame rate increases the affect of gsync decreases, i don't even notice much when i have mine turned off, unless i have low frame rates

Get an LG. I don't think the price jump is worth it.

warranty is important too no? LG has 1 yr warranty on parts and labor apparently. I got a x34, with 3yrs warranty (on site) + 2 yrs extended on parts and labor (not by acer but by distributor). considering it died EXACTLY one month after i got it, had the guy come down and take it back for servicing and was subjected to using a spare 17" i had. seems to be a common issue with that monitor judging from posts on the internet. but almost a year now and its running great. also most old games don't support 21:9, was kinda disappointed about that. you can use flawless widescreen for some newer games that don't support 21:9. newerer games support 21:9 so its quite futureproof i guess. sad that I had to play MGStPP with 2 black bars at the sides. and skyrim is a bit stretched at 3440x1440 but you get used to it. other games are fine though.

There is a new AOC monitor thats already available for pre order on amazon that is 3440x1440 100hz and has g sync for $900. The only problem i guess you could say is that it is a VA panel. Im planning on picking up this monitor myself its call AOC Agon AG352UCG. I kinda like VA panels since they dont have anywhere near the amount of back light bleed as some of these IPS displays and has much better colors and viewing angles then a TN panel but not as good as a IPS.

My deal on getting a cheaper LG has vanished for now. I am gonna wait a bit.

I am leaning towards a GSYNC monitor instead, considering I would be using this monitor and the 1080ti for the next few years. At least the GSYNC would work better on the games that aren't pushing the FPS.

Will keep an eye on deals for now. BTW, why are there no news on new 21:9 UW 120+Hz monitors lately? I saw some articles that boasted a standard of 100Hz... Need these current generation of monitors to get cheaper.
