How will a GTX 1080 hold up against upcoming Vega and, later on, Volta?

Hi,

So basically, I managed to get a GTX 1080 for £300!

It was a heat of the moment, it was such a good deal I just had to go for it.

However, I have been reading about upcoming Volta and Vega GPUs, and was just wondering how you guys think the 1080 will hold up against them?

Especially for the low price of £300, I can't imagine the new GPUs to beat the 1080 in price-performance for the price I got it, however I could be wrong and would just like to hear your opinions on it also :)

Thanks.

No idea... if current trends continue it would be about XX60-XX70 Volta arc. performance which is in the 300-700 CAD range (£178 - £416). For £300 that is a great deal so don't worry about the future, there will always be something faster next year.

300 for a GTX 1080?!  Holy crap!  I would've taken that in a heartbeat, as well! :o

The GTX 1080 will have around the same performance of RX Vega, by the looks of things.  Some of the rumors suggest it is between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, and others suggest it is between a GTX 1080 and a GTX 1080 Ti.  Won't know for sure until Computex. ;)

However, we basically have no idea how it will stack up against Volta.  Only a few rumors about Volta have come out.

Sorry for the mess!  My laptop just went ROG!

Yeah, I understand that. And this is good to hear, I wasn't too worried however  I just wanted to check as I am not very knowledgeable about how different factors affect GPU performance, I just know how to build a PC and the basics of how things work, so asking people like you two who actually know what they're talking about, plus I don't really keep up to date with things like this, is certainly helpful :)
