good eyes, I noticed aswell. but that's what you'll pay for a brand new platform. If you had to get a lower end r5 instead just to make up for that motherboard, still worth it.

i wouldn't get the fx series cpu. just wait for r5 to come out and you should be able to get a better cpu and more motherboards should be coming out with some of the cheaper chipsets.

there also other options like an i5 with an h110 motherboard or even a haswell xeon with a haswell lower end chipset.

Hope you don't plan on overclocking on a $40 board. Can it even support an 8xxx AMD CPU?

Wait for ryzen R5 1600 and a B350 board  OR if really on a budget R5 1400 with a B350 board

lightyears ahead of the FX 8350 ...

Let's agree to disagree

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

It likely can't support OC with that chip though. I'd bet the VRMs can't handle it and you'll end up melting the board.

That board is fine for an FX 6 core chip but 8 core will kill it. If you want a good board for an FX 8 core, look at the 970 chipset and up. 4+2 power phase isn't enough for the 8 core. Some boards to look at if you want a decent OC on an FX are the top tier ones listed here. A little dated but they will give you an idea. The Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura can be added to that list as well and if you're going to get one this late in the game, might as well go with one that has plenty of features on it like an m.2 slot. There is also the MSI 970A Gaming Pro Carbon. Both of these boards can be found for $100-$120 USD and offer similar features. The MSI is black with white while the Asus is black with red and RGB. May be able to get them at a discount somewhere like Jet with the TRIPLE15 discount code. Both are the same price on that site after applying the code. I would not switch to an FX 8 core as an upgrade but if you can get one really cheap or free, then go for it.

Keep in mind the Ryzen motherboard you get will be used with the next generation of Ryzen processors, so you will only need to buy a new CPU when you upgrade, making any extra cost worth it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @3.7ghz (1.3v) Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 GPU: Zotac Mini GTX 1060 Case: NZXT - S340 (Black/Blue) Mobo: MSI B350m mortar arctic

RAM: Team Vulcan DDR4 (2x4gb, 2666mhz) Storage: Toshiba 1tb 7200rpm HDD, PNY CS1311 Sata SSD (6gb/s) PSU: EVGA - BQ 500w 80+ Bronze semi modular

I'd just get a used i7-2600 and a cheap LGA 1155 board instead of a FX-8350 and a low end AM3+ board. 2600 would perform a bit better in multi threaded compared to a 8350, while 2700 is significantly better than a 8350 in single thread.

You also have to consider that the 2600 runs cooler and uses less power than the 8350.

The 8350 is obviously going to be a much cheaper upgrade and quite frankly a massive upgrade from your current build.

Have you already purchased the motherboard and memory for the FX 8350?  What price would you be paying total for the CPU, motherboard and memory?

The Ryzen platform is newer and will likely have better performance, but depending on what sort of price you'd be looking at for the FX build it may still offer better price/performance.

Out of curiosity, do you actually live in SA?  Your PC specs seem more in line with something I'd expect in a second or third world country.
