lga 2011-v3 in a lga 2011-3?

LGA 2011 v3 (a mashup of a CPU name and socket name) IS LGA 2011-3

I was rewatching linus make the ultra compact pc with dans case. It made me wonder if you can put a lga 2011-v3 cpu into a lga 2011-3 socket? I wouldn't think so since they are not exactly the same but I was curious since it would be cool to have a quad channel motherboard with a normal desktop cpu (save some $$$).
