Why haven't manufacturers started putting PWM fans in PSUs?

I started doing something not too long ago. When I get a new PSU off Amazon without a warranty, I take it apart and replace the stock fan with a decent PWM fan, if it's 70, 80, 92, or even 120mm, I replace it with something like a CM SickleFlow. It looks nicer and when the motherboard controls the fan from ambient temps the PSU generally maintains efficiency. I have not done this with my Corsair CX600 because it's still under warranty and it's a pain in the ass to take out of my case...

No reason to, they already use a pwm controller for the fan, and no reason to use anouther pin.

Some units have fan control, I believe some versions of the Corsair Link enabled PSU's have the ability to change the fan curve to your desire.

Hell with most companies even a 2 cent difference will make them go with something cheaper if they can. Multiply that over a couple hundred thousand to millions of units and it adds up.

 

I thought Intel didn't solder the IHS to the die anymore because the die is too small and would crack because of the heat?

I game at either 1080p or 1440p, depends how shit the game is optimized or just ಠ_ಠ limits

You have much more powerful hardware than I do, and I can run all of my games at 1080p60...SkyrimSE, Fallout4, NFS2015, GTA5, so why do you game at 1440p? GTA5 runs on Intel HD 4400 well, so there's no reason not to...

because it wont run well at 4k and 1080p is annoying on a 4k monitor?

 

gta 5 barely runs on my hd 4000.

the games i play have shitty, SHITTY optimization. and terraria, the devs need to add in support for 1080p or higher anyways.

Intel HD 4400 is MUCH better than HD 4000.

 

An i3 4050u can run GTA5 just fine at native.

 

Why are you playing games with bad optimisation?

I don't pay for anything. I'm not gonna spend $60+ on something I'll play for a few hours and then get rid of if I don't like it. I play 100 hours and if I like it then I buy it.

 

Plus torrenting is faster than Steam anyway.

im admitting that most of it was AFK hours.

 

 

 

minecraft has the most bang/buck for me, $15 and played like 8 hours from 2012-2016

I paid $20 and have like 1000+ hours because I play with the kids at the local library. I bring my media PC, it's light af but runs MC at 100+ FPS

They are already pwm. Only takes an extra minute to wire it in. As long as it isn't something like a noctua.

I'd still prefer to have the PSU fan wired to my motherboard so I can manually control it and monitor it, the fan is completely hidden by my chassis so I can't see it if it fails. My Corsair warranty is almost over so I'm getting ready to drop a SickleFlow 12 Red into my CX600. I'll do a YouTube video on it sometime.

Well that would make them all the same if you're gonna control it your self. I don't have a temp probe or know it's tolerances so I'd rather let it control the fan an so I'll just watch the rpms through my mobo.

Well you can always strip the wires and keep the PWM data lead on the PWM plastic header and then wire + and - directly to the PSU headers anyway if all you want to do is monitor.

Which is what I'm doing. I had to replace the fan anyway. So I just used an adapter. I just didn't wonna make a profile myself not knowing what the psu actually needs. It's always silent now so it doesn't bother me.

I don't even need a profile, the fans in PSUs are generally around 1500RPM anyway, and I have the fan on 1 of 2 CPU headers anyway so as soon as the power consumption goes up from a game and the CPU fan spins up the PSU fan will spin up as well.
