Why do i have 16gb of system files

I have a small laptop with a tiny SSD in it and I have 16gb of system files which is over 50% of all the avaliable storage. Is there any way to make it use less space? I did upgrade from windows 8 to 10 so is there the old OS on it?

It's literally just Windows and all the updates. Not much you can really do about it other than running Disk Cleanup and letting that do it's thing.

I did disk cleanup and all it did was remove 20mb of data

That's from your old windows and windows update for the new Windows 10 builds. Run windows update first to see if they are any new updates. When it's all installed. Go to disk clean up and remove old windows installation from the check box.
