1440p worth it compared to 1080p?

So I currently have a 1080p 24" IPS monitor, which I'm pretty happy with.

I'm tempted buying a 1440p monitor, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I usually just browse the internet, watch YouTube videos, work for school and play Overwatch. My R9 280 should be able to handle 1440p without too much problems.

Is 1440p worth it for my use case? I'm not really keen of spending €250 and not being happy with it.

I don't think your GPU can handle 1440p Overwatch.

Well a 280 will have a tough time pushing 1440, it'll do it but not at higher settings.

 

I recommend standing at 1080p for now, but if you REALLY want it then go to a tech/media store and see for yourself what 1440p offers.

No, 1440p is still better off for higher end cards, as you will find yourself having your minimum framerates hit below 60 fps more frequently. Thus a less enjoyable experience.

I looked up some benchmarks and the R9 280 gets around 60 fps everything ultra on 1440p.

I personally wouldn't pick up a 1440P monitor unless it was on a great sale. You can get a 1080P IPS panel for a great price

Everything ultra on Overwatch, yes.

I don't think there will be a lot of difference between my 4690k and an i7 tho.

Considering their GPU is a 280 I don't think they would see much of a difference between a 4690k and any higher end CPU.

i7s are better for pushing frames in these games, though I do suppose any bottleneck  will be minor with such a GPU

I felt it to be really worth it upgrade from 1680x1050p 22inch monitor to the 29 inch ultra wide 1080p, so it probably applies to your case However like stated above you'll need a better graphics card

Maybe I am missing something but the 280 is not a great card. It is comparable to the 960, and when compared to the 1060 6GB (something rarely recommended for 1440p builds) it is much worse.
