How much storage will I need for games?

NeelanCruzz

So I am building my first ever PC and I am going to Install a 480gb ssd(Sandisk Ultra II) as my primary storage with OS, and a 1 TB WD hdd for everything else.

I needed to know whether I should Install and store Steam games on the SSD or the Hdd? and how much space will the OS take?

or should I just keep the OS on the ssd and games on the Hard drive?

and Is the 480 GB ssd overkill? is 250 GB enough? Sorry for so many questions.

Keep the 480gb SSD, the sandisk is a good choice. The majority of your games go on the HDD, while the games with long loading times or programs you need to be quick like photo/video editing go on the SSD. This is entirely preference. You can choose whatever you want to go on each, though it adds up quickly so depending on the size of your library (or soon to be, since it's your first PC) you might want to consider a 2tb HDD.

I recommend a 2tb drive for the sake of peace of mind. Games like DOOM or GTA5 can be especially large, 50-80gb. Most AAA titles will be atleast 20gb or greater.

My steam folder is over a terabyte, how many games do you have? Stuff like TF2 or stuff like GTAV?

I don't have any games right now as I Haven't assembled it yet, but I am going to use Photoshop and Premier a lot and speaking of games I am a casual gamer, so basically I won't install a lot of games.

Oh, and windows10 for me is about 17.5gb. It will vary specifically but always be around 16-20gb.

At least a 1tb HDD along side the ssd boot.... many games won't benefit that much from the ssd speed
