Yes, it will work fine.

PCIE slots are backwards comparable and even a modern 1070 should still work with PCIE Gen 1(albeit with a significant bottleneck).

PCI-E is backwards and forwards compatible, a PCI-E 3.0 card will work in a PCI-E 2.0 or 1.0 slot but with reduced bandwidth.

Graphics cards don't max out the available bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0 so it will be fine. Basically if your buying a motherboard that has a 16x slot you'll be fine.

It's a standard connection.... all motherboards that I know have at least one PCIe slot..........any graphics card produced in the past 13 years will be compatible. PCIe 3.0(or Gen3) has been around since 2008. It'll work, trust us.

PCIe is just the slot that the card and motherboard have, the revision number (1 2 and 3) are backward compatible so as long as it fits it should also work.

But seriously all current GPUs use the PCIe slot to communicate with the motherboard, and 99.99% of new motherboards have a PCIe slot.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it that they USUALLY don't bottleneck the bandwidth, in certain cases, I do believe they do, but those are not very typical, but if memory serves correct, things like animation rendering do top out the bandwidth if they use gpu accelerated rendering do they not?  I'm not contributing to this question, more asking for my own personal reference here...

Yes they do, I ment to add whilst gaming to that sorry. You can max out out with compute loads.

As long as it says "PCIE x16" on the motherboard, any graphics card would work.
