For anyone who says you can run WoW on a potato.....

Big Head Tech

Clearly you haven't played recently. Got my 1700x up to 80*C and my GTX 1080 FTW up to 88*C. Running 1440p high res textures does take a ton of power. Can't push above 100fps (monitor is 144hz).

And your point is? If you try to run any game at all on a potato you obviously don't use 1440P with high resolution textures and high settings. And you feel happy if you manage to get anything above 30 FPS *Cries on intel 3520M iGPU*

People say that you can run it on a potato because its a very scalable game.  Turn the performance slider down to 1 and you could probably run it on a calculator.  Also not everyone needs massive frames, look at all the console peasants who are quite happy with their 30fps...(and its not like wow really benefits from the fps

Also, it was just with this last expansion that it got a big boost on the high end of the scale.  what use to be 10 now falls around 7.

Using temp to judge how demanding a game is about as good as a cop judging your speed by how loud your car is.... So many other variables at play that its completely irrelevant.

Considering WoW was released in 2004, then it should indeed run on a potato, as it was designed to run on hardware from -2004.

I can run Witcher 3 on ultra at higher FPS than i can WoW, its just an old engine and there isn't much that can be done about it.  If you run WoW on low settings than yes it can be run on almost anything, and to be perfectly honest even at ultra settings WoW still kinda looks like shit lol

I tried to run it on a Sempron 2.8GHz 16GB ram 240GB SSD GTX 1080 FTW, at 1 settings 1280x720 it was less than 10 fps.  So I'd definitely beg to differ.  You need at least a Core 2 Quad or newer pentium to run anything playable.

Almost anything in the past 5 years I'd agree.

Original WoW Requirements (to turn the game on)

P3 800MHz

32MB of graphics

4GB of system storage

256MB ram

Current WoW Requirements (To turn the game on)

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 or Phenom II x3 720

2GB of ram (xp) 4GB on Vista/7/10

NVidia Geforce GT 440 GDDR5/HD 5670 GDDR5

Current WoW Recommendations (middle settings)

Intel Core I5-3330/AMD FX-6300

That doesn't sound right at all, my crappy 6 year old laptop can run it better than that.

Well those new requirements (minimum) will run on my daughter PC that I picked up for £1 from a car boot sale (No joke, I paid £1) And that is indeed a potato pc.

The game simply ranges widely from low to high ends, if you put all on low and 1080p it is fairly easy to run, if you crank all up on 1440p it'll be more taxing obviously, the thing is that unlike some games such as ubishit that low still runs bad, wow's low runs good?

120-160FPS on my XEON + GTX 780 computer at 1080P.

GTX 1080 is not a good card for older games anyway, it's not a new thing.

I have a intel xeon cpu and a 1070 i hope this makes you salty.

That was before Legion. Many graphical updates were added as well as high res textures. I can easily get 250+ fps in the open world in the older areas. But in a 25 person raid or major city my 4790k+GTX 980 ti (previous rig) would hit as low as 30 fps.

Again in the older world yes but try dalaran on a busy night or a 25 man raid you won't break 100.

I turned my fan curve down a tad on my 1080 but it would easily reach 75-80*C stock fan curve. I have a hyper 212 Evo. Phanteks p400 with 6 sp120 RGB fans an EVGA G2 550w.

Well on a raid it sounds about right

on a 18 man raid on swtor or pvp I drop into the 20's at some points because if CPU bottle neck because the game runs on one thread

but not with crazy temps

My x370 board has voltage spiking issues. I locked the voltage at 1.25V and it seems to stay in the low 70s. As for my 1080, I adjusted the fan curve to be silent and that was my bad.

The 1700x is 60C. There is a 20 celsius offset value in readings.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

I run settings 8, but with view distance dropped down 2 notches, and easily hold my vsync 60fps (don't hate, I'm poor)  I could push to settings 9, but then I get frame dips, and the gpu gets louder...I'm quite happy where it's at with my RX 480 4GB and FX 8320 (4.2Ghz).  Dalaran drops into the mid 40s, but everywhere else, including dungeons and raids holds to the 55-60fps mark.  Amazing compared to my old HD 7850, and even older HD 6750.  I can run settings 1 at 30ish fps on my i5 3317U notebook with on-board graphics.  Settings 2 in some areas, but the Intel GPU just suffers too hard to do that constantly.  My wife runs settings 5 on an old Phenom II x4 925 and R9 255 2GB, at 50-60 fps.  Just gotta play with view distance, shadow quality, or particles to tweak to older stuff.  It won't run on a potato anymore, as I had to retire an old Athlon 64 X2 and HD 6670 once the previous xpac came out.
