Need Help Deciding On Zenbook VS XPS 13

Zen book is $1300 CAD

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX65082

i7-7500U

16gb ram

512gb SSD

13.3" 1080p Non touch MATTE display

XPS is $1349 CAD (On sale ATM)

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/dell-dell-xps-13-3-laptop-aluminum-silver-intel-core-i5-7200u-128gb-hdd-8gb-ram-windows-10-xps9360-4060slv/10567343.aspx?

i5-7200U

8gb ram

128gb SSD

1080p Display with Infinity Edge, 13.3"

I know the zen book has better specs for performance along with 3-4x the storage, but every review or list of top 10 ultra books seems to recommend the XPS 13.

The laptop will be used for

  • School (2-4 tabs+excel+Word open at the same time)
  • League of Legends (not often, maybe 2-4hours a week)
  • Netflix/Streaming/Etc

Main PC: 4690k // Z97 // R9 280 3GB // 8gb Ram // CM Elite 430 Case // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Living Room "Console" PC: FX 8350 // 990a SLI Krait // R7 360 // 8gb Ram // HAF 912 // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Future Plans:

find a 2nd monitor at a pawn shop

Sell/giveaway R7 360, move r9 280 into console PC, buy a better GPU for main PC.

If you're using it for school go for the i5 model. It gets significantly better battery life. Anything can play League, you won't really get better performance.

Any reason, other than battery life, why you guys chose it over the zen book with significantly better specs? :)

I wouldn't say significantly.

  • I mean yes, it has twice the RAM, but realistically with what you're doing it's not needed, and on a laptop it's generally not needed at all.
  • The SSD is a huge plus, can't deny that. If you step down to the i5 model though you should be able to put the same SSD into the Dell.
  • The Dell looks nicer. I know, subjective, but still.
  • Battery life battery life battery life.

You're right.  The ssd is definitely a plus on the zen book but the Xps screen is way better.  Battery life is... ehh I value it to a point haha.  I'm usually near an outlet anyways and I am used to using a laptop for 4hours before I move spots and find an outlet (in case I don't have one near me).

Why is it so hard to choose :(

Yeah. It's a shame Canada doesn't get the decent i5 models of XPS 13.

I'm also having difficulty, so best option let these forums get comments and wait and research for atleast a fortnight, look up on lot of reviews, videos, etc.

I went for the Zenbook

Honestly, the display of XPS was much better.. But then I thought how the zenbook display isnt "bad" by any means.  It's actually great (Turn off adaptive brightness+auto adjust brightness).

plus 3-4x the storage and 2x the ram.  I wasn't going to give that up for a better display!
