Stock Intel cooler on i7 6700k?

Hollamean

So I'm in the process of upgrading my computer. I ordered the cpu (i7 6700) and psu (evga 750w b2) I was planning on ordering the water cooler (corsair h80 v2) and motherboard ( Asus z170 pro gaming aurora) next month. I guess I have a couple of questions. Would the new cpu be okay in my msi b150 pc mate with the stock intel cooler if I wanted to swap it out with my current cpu and sell it? Also is the water cooler and the psu overkill for what my setup is going to be? I have 2 8gb 2133 sticks of ram, 2 1tb 7200 rpm hdd, 1 ssd and an Asus 1070 coming. If anybody else has different recommendations I'm all open. Thanks

6700 or 6700k? your post and title contradict.

if 6700, the stock cooler will be fine. if 6700k, it would be fine with a stock one but you couldnt(or rather, shouldnt) try to overlock.

It depends on which processor the stock cooler came from. If it was from a 95W TDP Intel part, it should be fine. But if was from anything lower, then you probably don't want to run anything heavy on the processor.

EDIT: If you ordered a i7-6700K thinking it comes with a cooler, it doesn't. But if you have another to use, then the above applies

If its the 6700k (As mentioned in the title) then it won't have a stock cooler, if its the 6700 (Mentioned in the post) then it will be fine to use as long as you don't overclock it

Woops I mean 6700k

then no stock cooler is in the box, meaning you have to wait for the cooler

My intel stock cooler that i want to use came from an i5 6500. What Intel part is that

That's a 65W TDP processor. So don't run anything heavy on the i7-6700K.

You can deliberately downclock it, but you'd have to go down quite a bit.

I ran my 6700K on an old i5 stock cooler.  You'll be fine, just don't stress it

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

If it wasn't a Skylake one, then that would do since most i5's before Skylake were 91W TDP. All non-K parts on Skylake are 65W TDP, and I'm going to assume Intel only ships what barely works.

Hit the nail on the head.  I would advise undervolting at the very least, under-clocking too

Im new at all this tech stuff. What do you mean by "running something heavy" ? So far I'm gathering I should wait for the rest of the components to come in i guess. Anybody else think I should use a different cooler besides the one I listed or if my psu is overkill?

Anything that keeps the CPU busy, like running a reasonably recent game, doing video editing work, or any other computation heavy task. Browsing the internet and watching YouTube are light tasks for the computer.

I would just recommend an aftermarket cooler. The stock one doesnt perform well with k series cpu's

Your psu is overkill unless you're running two or more graphics cards. The H80i v2 is good. Any reason why you're looking at this cooler as opposed to any others? What are the rest of your specs?

The stock cooler is fine with some undervolting but might not keep up if you leave the voltage at Auto.

The stock cooler is sufficient as long as you don't overclock. You won't be hitting the 95W TDP if you don't overclock, so you'll be fine until then.

Anything in brackets is what I am going to order to upgrade that part.

My spec is

I5 6500 w/ stock cooler (i7 6700k )(Corsair h80i v2)

Asus gtx 1070

Corsair cx 500m ( evga 750 b2)

Msi b150 p ( Asus z170 gaming pro aura)

2 8gb 2133 hyper x fury.

The h80i v2 I chose that because I was watching tech deals $1500 build on YouTube and wanted to do something close to that. A good 1440p gaming rig.I  know you can never future proof but more stay good in the next 3 to 5 years hopefully

There's no such thing as future-proof. Why replace your psu?

You mean 6700k, right? You should try to be a bit more consistent or else it gets confusing.

There's no point in following a video build just to follow it. If you have the option, picking the best fit for the job.

What case do you have?

Yeah I mean 6700k. I keep forgetting they have non k ones. Seems pointless to me to get a non k 6600 or 6700 cpu. Just my opinion. My case is a phanteks ethos pro m I believe. I want to replace the psu because 1. Will it be enough if I overstock and 2. Im not sure but is corsair cx 500m good enough for the setup I want to upgrade to?

CX500M is good enough for overclocking. You likely won't hit more than 400W after good OCs are achieved.

Overclock = OC.

Edit: At least on this forum.

I'm just not sure how many watts OCing produces but if the current psu is good enough for the build I want that would be good. I could get a different part a lot sooner.

You're usually increasing the voltage on the millivolt. It isn't like to add another 100W per OC part. For reference, my personal PC uses ~430W on max load to the CPU/GPU/disks at once.
