Need a device (available in Canada) that plays media off of a USB

whatishacks

The device is for my grandma who is not tech savy at all.  She lives next door so I can easily assist her with any problems but I do not want something complicated.

With that being said, the item must be available in canada, amazon.ca is fine.

I will be loading videos from youtube onto a USB and playing them on her TV.

Looking for any device that can do this :) ~$50 price range would be ideal ($10 or so more for some android box that can play usb devices would be okay as well).

Main PC: 4690k // Z97 // R9 280 3GB // 8gb Ram // CM Elite 430 Case // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Living Room "Console" PC: FX 8350 // 990a SLI Krait // R7 360 // 8gb Ram // HAF 912 // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Future Plans:

find a 2nd monitor at a pawn shop

Sell/giveaway R7 360, move r9 280 into console PC, buy a better GPU for main PC.

Sadly not.  It's a pretty old TV and my grandma won't replace it until it stops working

You can achieve this with pretty much any Media Player box that has a USB port on it. The difficulty is going to be getting it under $50 CAD.

You'd need a full size Roku box or similar (Roku Express doesn't have USB ports, neither does something like a Chromecast).

You could also get pretty much any Android TV box. Here are a few on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.ca/GooBang-Doo-Pro-Android-Box-Amlogic-S905X/dp/B06XRQP6NR/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1490460500&sr=8-11&keywords=android+tv+box

https://www.amazon.ca/MXQ-Android-Amlogic-Streaming-Player/dp/B01NBR7VSS/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1490460500&sr=8-16&keywords=android+tv+box

I have no idea how easy those Android TV boxes are to actually use though.

Not sure if this is available in Canada, but what about a Raspberry Pi and Kodi?

For 'Grandma Friendly' Kodi is probably too complicated and feature rich for this situation.  A novice user could easily muck up settings in the GUI and create big problems.  This is a job for something, er, simpler.  The discontinued Western Digital WDTV would be a good example of something more suitable.
