To say that this only happens in the US is quite disingenuous.  Also, the title is quite clickbait.  The US Senate did not pass a bill that let internet providers share your browsing history without your permission.  They repealed/overturned a previous bill which had yet to have gone into effect.  So really nothing even changed.  Lastly, all this does is allow companies to target ads based on your browsing history.  No they really don't care about what kind of pron you like to watch.

That would more likely just see them exempt any current or past member of congress - and those associated with them - than it would the bill die.

 

The UK did exactly the same thing with The Investigatory Powers Bill, the politicians made themselves exempt from it.

Except for the inherent politics of this vote being split completely down party lines with 100% of "yes" votes being Republican and 100% of "no" votes being Democrat? I do not know why you have taken it upon yourself to delete a link to the vote tally. Unless users are being inflammatory or insulting why the deletion? I guess /r/pcgaming is a better forum for news discussion as they don't censor arbitrarily.

I never said that. I said "US Senate votes to let internet providers..." They voted to overturn what consumer-friendly internet privacy rules there are that prohibit this, so effectively they voted to let ISPs share your browsing history without your permission.

The data collection is scary enough as the govt. will never need to get their hands dirty in order to push state interests. Simply leak information about an opposing party to another party who is against said opposing party, and both parties will annihilate each other due to mob mentality.
