I am looking for a new song to play on the piano, and was wondering if y'all had any input? Just tell me the song you think I should play, and why I should play it on piano.

I was considering playing Piano Man by Billy Joel. But I can't play the harmonica and the piano at the same time unfortunately.

For the artistic side of your brain it could be helpful to learn piano, but thats it and thats all.

Probably better to learn guitar, or bass or drums if you want to go somewhere in life with that hobby.

Probably stimulate the same area's of the brain, if thats the angle you are going for.

Despite how good you are, playing that piece to fruition is something that takes years of practice alone.

 

 

 

Personally the pieces I've been playing around with of late have been Chopin's Ballade No. 1 Op. 23 in G minor, as well as Liebesleid's Piano solo as transcribed by Rachmaninoff. 

Both verge pretty heavily on the more difficult side of things, but I've been in love with both pieces for years and am only now at the point where I can start to truly appreciate them both without gritting my teeth and stumbling over my fingers.

I've been playing piano for nearly a decade now and my favorite song to play is still Jarrod Radnich's cover of "He's a Pirate".

 

It's really fun.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

It depends entirely on your level of proficiency and what you want to do with music.

I think learning to improvise is fun and a valuable lesson, and as a teacher, I find it helps students with everything else. Check out a few jazz tunes- easy ones to learn are 'C-Jam Blues' by Duke Ellington and 'Blue Monk' by Thelonious Monk. Learn the tunes and practice using the melody, chords, and blues scales to improvise over them.
