no my wife mostly shoots outdoors but we have had some family birthdays indoors and we noticed the flash not working. ive messed with the settings and reset to factory settings but still doesn't work. the camera is not even 2yrs old. my wife has taken approx 2-3k photos. 95% outdoors.

Then I guess you could have it looked at by a professional.

Yeah just use an external flashgun.

Did you try to reset the camera to factory defaults?

Yep, even if the pop up flash on the camera is not functional, the hotshoe should still be working and an external speedlight unit will work.

As to why the pop up one isn't working, it's best to have a technician look at it than trying to fiddle and repair it yourself if it's a technical fault.  There shouldn't be any option in the camera menu that disables the pop up flash though I do suggest you check inside the camera's custom settings menu and the settings for the flash are usually under the menu group "e", and make sure your mode dial is not set to the one with the line through the flash icon (the one between Auto and Scene).  If you're not sure what each custom menu option does, I suggest you read the manual.

Stick it in manual, tape the pop-up flash down (you're never gonna use it) and use an external. Pop-up flash is a waste of time and energy and serves no purpose other than one or two things:

1: Set off flashguns in Slave mode
2: Annoy surrounding people.
