RAM heat spreader mod

unassumingmelon

So, a friend gave me 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM. It's awesome, but.... I have a beautiful Z170 Stinger with the ugliest green RAM pcb. I know I can buy aftermarket heat spreaders but most of them are ugly/cheap looking

My Idea: I have access to a high powered laser cutter and engraver and some thin sheet aluminum.  I want to create my own heat spreader and attach it using thermal tape. I could design a custom engraving and distract from the awful green RAM. Heat spreaders are roughly useless so I don't imagine it would impact cooling. I guess my question is- would that work? Also, I feel like someone has probably tried this before but I couldn't find any examples. Any suggestions?

As long as you maintain the proper clearances, it should be doable. Just stay away from adhesives tapes.

That can be done as long as you are able to get accurate measurements for cutting and shaping the aluminum. For the thermal pads you can use thermal tape just be sure it is the apporiate thickness needed for your heatspreaders you will make.
