Response time, according to the box, is 1ms. Like I said, there's no image ghosting that I can notice.

My personal preference in this matter (1440p-60hz vs 1080p-144hz) is on the side of the higher refresh rate because, once I saw how smooth 144hz looked, looking at a 60hz monitor is like playing a 30 fps console game when you're used to playing at 60 fps on PC.

You should probably go to your local PC store and see if you can check out the differences in image qualities between a higher resolution monitor compared to a higher refresh monitor. That way, you'll be able to make a solid decision and won't be wondering if you're missing out on something you'd rather have with another monitor.

Hi

So I'm looking to a new monitor that will show the true potential of my new gaming rig.

I currently have a 24 inch 75hz monitor. I would like at least a 24 inch size screen.

Should I get a 1080p 144hz or 1440p ??hz

EDIT: Budget: £250-300

Can you recommend me anything?

Thanks!

CPU: i5-6600k + Hyper x212 EVO
GPU: GeForce GTX 1070
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED (8gb x2)

MB: Asus 170-A Pro

I'd vouch for the ASUS VG248QE. I picked one up recently because my BenQ XL2420T got a dead pixel. Colors are decent and there's no ghosting to speak of. 144hz 1080p TN panel.

They can be found for somewhere between $200-300.

Idk if I'd go for 1440p 144hz with a 1070, because it doesn't have enough horsepower to push that resolution to that framerate in most modern games.

Current Build:

PSU: EVGA G6 Supernova 850

What's this monitor for? If competitive gaming then get one of the 1080p 144hz monitors that other people said. But If gaming is more casual I think 1440p 60hz would look really nice. Your 1070 will be able to run it just fine.

Not competitive gaming. I don't play FPS shooter games like CS:GO I will be playing games like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.

I just want to get the best picture without any lag or long response times within my £250-300 budget.

Can my video card handle a 1440p 60hz monitor? Also (if you know) what would be the main differences between choosing a 1080p 144hz and a 1440p 60hz.

Is is the higher resolution on the 1440p worth the reduction of hz (144hz - 60hz) As I imagine that the space games I play would benefit a lot from a higher refresh rate.

Thanks! :)

high refresh rate (aka. 144hz), at least for me, is really only useful for competitve gaming, like CSGO. If you are looking for the best picture then definitely go 1440p. That Dell has pretty good input lag. And yes, your GPU can handle 1440p at 60hz.

I don't know how either of those games play and what is best for each, but I imagine that a 1440p IPS would look wonderful in a space game. But then again, I don't know how they play so keep that in mind. Do some research, maybe look at some reddit or forum threads on what people prefer for those games.

Second ^

i have a VG248QE (1080p 144hz) and I also have a PB278Q (1440p 60hz). Personally I prefer the 1440p. You really only would want the 144hz for fps games And stuff like csgo. Also I would look for an IPS panel. You will get slightly slower response times (3-5ms which is nothing) but you get much better picture quality. My VG248QE has a TN panel and the colors are really washed out sitting next to an IPS screen
