Is it possible to use a USB stick as memory card on a PS2?

Lately i've been thinking a lot about getting a PS2 again, i already got myself a nice CRT TV and it wouldn't be a bad idea to couple it with some older consoles.

But i'm thinking about something, one of the struggles i had with the PS2 back in the day was the savegames, every once in a while i would fill the whole 8mb of free space inside the memory card and need to sacrifice a save file or two. Non-official knock-offs are quite cheap, but its still not ideal having to store a bunch of random memory cards.

So i was thinking, i have a bunch of these cheap SanDisk pendrives scattered around the house, wouldn't it be easier if i could just use one of these instead?

Is it possible to do such thing? 

 

Just for the record, if the Playstation itself needs to be modded, it will be, every single Playstation i've seen for sale around here has the famous Matrix modchip inside, so that shouldn't be a problem.

i dont think so ince the games are looking for a memory cad in the memory card slot

No that won't work, however there is a way to transfer saves to your computer via some gadget (don't remember what it's called right now), so that's a way of keeping more saves even if it's a bit more cumbersome.

I heard about these, never seen one in person, but i'm aware that they exist, it could be an option.

U'ill need custom firmware and by that meaning u have to hack your ps2.

Its a lil bit complicated and u will need an external HDD.

 

Will it last? i have 8mb ps2 memory card from 10 years ago and its still work.

the only problem with ps2 mc is that it if u keep on plugging in and out too often it will wear out the gold contact pin.

not to mentioned most ps2 mc on sales today is not original.

There was a way via custom firmware to save stuff to the ps2 hdd.

I was looking at this as well, i haven't had much to read it fully, but it seems like it would work with an external HDD as well.

I have an Iomega eGo enclosure and i can find HDDs for cheap very easily, could be a solution as well.
