Nvidia drivers on linux

Can anyone help with stopping nouveau. I went in the blacklist file and blacklisted nouveau but driver installer still says it is up. I did have trouble wi x server but I got that off.

Did you install the nvidia drivers first? What distro are you using? How are you installing the nvidia drivers?

It is a .run file on Ubuntu. Whatever the newest version is I'm not home.

yes it will according to Nvidia website

you can download the drivers form ne Nvidia website and compile it your self

EDIT: do I also whitelist the things I blacklisted. 

That repo has the latest drivers and some of the older ones as well. It will work with any GTX graphics card.

You should set your system back to the way it was before all the things you did

Follow the instructions on that page for adding the PPA (the repo) to your system

Go to the Software & Updates app

Click on Additional Drivers

Select the newest nvidia driver (NVIDIA binary driver - version 378.13 from nvidia-378)

Finally, click Apply Changes
