Old Routers

Here in spain all our routers are Modem+router combo units, I have around 5 of them from over the years and theya re all broadcom based units but nne of them are DD-wrt supported, what should I do with them? I was wishing to use them as repeaters.

You could connect them to the main router as "APs", but it would be through ethernet to each one. That would make one WiFi network for each router. Now that would only work if they have a "WAN IN" port, and because they are modems as well they might not.

They only have DSL in and ethernet out.

Then it wouldn't work. They need an ethernet port to connect them to the main router.

Unless you need them for DSL, then I'd say so. But I hang onto mine for random projects. They can be quite good heaters, you know. One of mine has a large heatsink that gets toasty after about 5 minutes on being on.

SOftware wise, is ther anything to do?

I have old adsl modem/router/ap combos, they work as wifi access points through the ethernet out ports. It says no internet but with tweaking the settings on the wlan settings it works just fine. One of them has stability issues with ios devices though. It is worth trying when you have spare time.

so if I disable DHCP?

I believe my routers had a dhcp bridge function. You can also disable it and use static ips. Or give the dhcp a different address pool, you could have main router give out ips from the 192.168.1.2-155 range, and the wifi from the .157-255 range for example.
