Do HDMI Cables Matter?

LucasDerpYT

I know there are the basic differences between 1.0 1.4 and 2.0, but does brand or anything like that matter for the quality?

For utmost performance, I recommend the $1000 HDMI

brand doesn;t really matter, as long as you look at the versions.

i think only 2.0 supports 4K60, and the rest is down to 4K30 or something.

my reccomendation is DP if you have the option anyway

As a general rule no.  An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable.  There are some rare exceptions of exceptionally poorly made cables or cables that have suffered damage, but even your dollar store 1m HDMI cable, regardless of what marketing garbage is written on the box, can transport HDMI 2.0a 4K @ 60hz without issue.

Thats way too much for a quality increase that is not that noticeable and actually we can build a 4K capable PC instead of that one single cable. That price is not worth the quality.

Hence why I use a $10000 VGA 4K cable.

1.4a caps out at 4K@30hz when using 8bpc RGB color data.  However there are non-standard implimentations using 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 chroma subsampling.

There will be no visual quality differences between HDMI cables. There will be differences in the physical quality and durability between cables though

Yes. You can't transmit HDMI without something connecting the two ends whether it's wired or wireless.

I mean not all can spend 1000$ for a cable for just quality increase that average user cannot notice.

If it's certified, then it should do just as well as any other certified cable, up to the rating that it's certified for. You can reference capabilities of different HDMI versions and cable certifiactions here.
