Budget, un-upgradeable PC

Hello! I'm planning on buying a new PC (the first one I'll have built by myself, actually), and I thought it would be a good idea to ask for some help.

I can't really give an exact number for my budget, but it's *fairly low*

I would be using the PC mostly for graphic design (photoshop, illustrator) some gaming (@ 1080p but I don't really care if everything is on medium low, and I'm pretty casual when it comes to games tbqh) and very ocasionally, video editing (nothing serious, only short things in 720p).

I won't upgrade this PC, ever. So this is is the list I have for now:

  • i5 7400
  • ASUS h110m
  • 2 * DDR3 4GB RAM sticks @ 1866 MHz by a respectable brand
  • 400w PSA by another respectable brand.
  • 1 TB HDD
  • Probably a GTX 1060
  • Generic cheap case

Now what I really want is to be told if anything on this list is stupid (and why) since I know what I want but maybe I am, I don't know... choosing a motherboard so weak for the processor that it would eventually explode and make me travel 200 years into the future. Is this kind of okay?

That isn't really so cheap it is around 550-600 for sure.

get a 480 4/8GB or a 1060 6GB, whatever costs less at the time.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

first of all h110 is a mixed bag, go b250 if you want that processor to work first time

don't use ddr3 with skylake please, it's just a mess. ddr4 is cheaper anyway in most regions. brand doesnt matter.

get a 450w corsair CXM (make sure the label is grey not black) or 430w Seasonic S12II

get a 480 4GB/8GB or 1060 6GB, 1060 3GB is shite

the board is fine

it's built to just be reliable. I have a h61 system that still works ffs

idk

RX 480 over a 1060,

get a h270 motherboard. The H110m might not work out of the box and require a bios update which you can't do because you need a skylake CPU for that.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

"PSA by respectable brand"?

Should I call PBS or CNN? MSNBC sounds good, though.

I fucked it up with the video card, it's overkill for the kind of thing I want to do.

Why, exactly? Is it because it's older thus more reliable?

Many thanks for letting me know this. The H270m are 50% more expensive, though (at least where I live). Would buying an i5 6500 solve that potential problem?

If you want to keep the H110 mobo, go for the 6500. It's built for the 100 series architecture. If you want to get a different one, try B250, it's cheaper than H270, and it's built for the 7000 series.

idk

I5 6500 the same speed as the i5 7400, can be purchased second hand and has cheaper Mobos

Just go with the slightly older 6500, there is no difference at all in your use case.

If you can wait for a month  get the cheapest ryzen r5 ( 169$) it will be cheaper and faster for your workload, and if you want you will be able to upgrade in the future or overcklock it to get extra performance

Sorry for updating the thread, would the MSI H110M PRO-VH be a good choice? Instead of the ASUS one (is there anything other than preference for brands, slots and I/O when it comes to motherboards with the same chipset?)

Not really. Features are more important than brand.
