Still not worth it. The 1700X and 1700 are cheaper and just as good! :D

based on their overclocking ability in comparison to the 1800x's stock speed, or does the 1800x just not OC as well?

All Ryzen CPUs OC to 3.9-4.1GHz. So there is no reason to spend more on the 1800X, because it won't OC better. BTW, Ryzen runs extremely cool, so you should be able to OC the 1700 or the 1700X to the same speeds as an 1800X with the stock cooler....

What it can or can't do we'll know for sure after all of the firmware and BIOS updates are complete,
