How to get more bass from KEF Q700's

vong

Hi,

My HT system consists of:

Arcam AVR380

Emotiva XPA-5

KEF Q600C

KEF Q700's

KEF Q300's

SVS PB12 Plus

Whenever I listen to music I switch the system to 2.1 mode and the bass from the Q700's are severly lacking and overall sounds unbalanced. The mids are overpowering the bass in the speakers and it's hard to dial in the sub to get that balance going. Speakers are given enough juice from the XPA-5 and I feel like there's not much else I can do. Anyone got tips?

Main PC CPU: 7700K, MOBO: Asus Strix, GPU: Aorus Extreme 3080, PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750, RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Storage: 970 Evo 1tb

Lounge PC CPU: 4790K MOBO: Asus Hero VII GPU: EVGA 3060 Ti PSU: Corsair RM650 RAM: Kingston HyperX 16gb Storage: 970 Evo 1TB

You have very nice gear. Try setting the crossover point a notch lower (say ~60 Hz) to reduce localization and try playing with your subwoofer's phase control (I believe this would be under the DSP menu for SVS Plus models) to get the best integration.

Switch the sub to 20hz mode put the cross over around 100Hz. In 20hz mode the sub is good (apparently) up to around 150Hz and the Kefs are good to around 100 ish. (really hard to get any response data which is normally a incredibly bad sign). Beyond turning the sub up could get some virtual bass but be a little trick to add to your system.

I dont think its worth buying a second sub since that one costs a fucking fortune and it shouldnt be needed and if it is i would just return the sub.

Lower the frequncy the more power is required to produce it so having a speaker pump out loads of infra is no help to no one since you cant hear it and all it will do is suck more power. If you really want to feel it add a rumbler dont waste sub power on below 20Hz stuff. (especially since you probably cant hear below 30-40Hz due to natural hearing loss)
