Dell Latitude e5480/e5570/e5580 with eGPU?

Hi! i would like a lightweigt laptop with a thunderbolt3 port. i need a gpu nvidia quadro m4000 for my mechanical design so i would like to use an egpu. i'm watching for a dell latitude which have a cpu quadcore i7-6820hq/i7-7820hq.  do you have infos about drivers/firmware of tb3 port in dell latitude e5480/e5570/e5580? do you know the compatibility with egpu like razer core, akitio node, powercolor devil box or asus xg station 2? i know that tb3 is x4 in these three models. do you know if somebody has already tried to connect latitude with egpus?

I don't know too much about external gpu's, but as far as I know if it has a thunderbolt port to link to your 'docking station' it should work just fine.

thanks for your answer! :)

i'm asking because i know that some laptop as acer vn7-592g have old drivers/firmware for tb3 port and this is a problem for egpu. vn7 is not able to connect to razer/akitio

dell xps 9550/9560 are tested with egpu but they have a tb3 port x2 and this causes a loss of speed of the egpu.

yes. had. returned it. egpu at the time was razer core because it was around the time it released. Dell has very stable firmware and drivers for tb3. so i'm assuming the e5480 will work. in fact every single dell laptop with tb3 should work because I think they just use the same tb3 firmware for all of it with minor changes.

i wish LOL. if its not my razer core (nor do i want one), but you can assume like a 10-30% less performance depending on how good the GPU is. The better the GPU (so like a 1070) the worse it gets. A 1070 eGPU via TB3 performs worse than a tdp-crippled 1060 built in laptop. You should ask @Eason85. He actively has eGPU tech lying around and he uses it.

i know that there is a loss of performance. so you tested a gtx1070?

Eason85's laptop? Eason85's Egpu?

It works. LOL. All Dell laptops work. Their firmware and drivers are up to date. eGPU.io has a really nice comparison of all current eGPU machines and my personal vote goes towards the Akitio Node.
