Which Macbook for my needs?

Hey guys, I am in the market for a apple Macbook & wondering which one I should go for if the purpose of me using it is:

1) Studying [medical student] - mostly Microsoft office [text clarity is important for me], video files, highly detailed x-ray images [high res images]

2) Chilling when I got time - HD movies, YouTube, Netflix

3) Portability kind of because sometimes I find myself studying at the library or away from home

4) Long battery life if i find myself traveling, but as for as I know I think all macbooks have great battery life overall

Choosing between:

- Macbook Pro 13"

- Macbook Air 13"

- Macbook 12"  (A-lot of people recommend NOT to buy this but for my needs would it matter?)

Buy new or used?

There are tons of used diff macbook's on kijiji/craigslist and can save me a-lot of money as long as they work properly & have been treated with care.

If you say used then which macbook & which year?

Or buy a new one?

Any upgrades I should go for?

ram, processor, storage

Thanks! ;)

If you really want a Mac for some reason, I'd suggest buying a used Macbook Pro. Buying a Mac brand new is just a complete waste of money, so unless money is no object to you, go used. Just making sure the person you're buying from has a good reputation.

i7 2600k @ 5GHz 1.49v - EVGA GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 - 16GB DDR3 2000MHz Corsair Vengence

Asus p8z77-v lk - 480GB Samsung 870 EVO w/ W10 LTSC - 2x1TB HDD storage - 240GB SATA SSD w/ W7 - EVGA 650w 80+G G2

3x 1080p 60hz Viewsonic LCDs, 1 glorious Dell CRT running at anywhere from 60hz to 120hz

Model M w/ Soarer's adapter - Logitch g502 - Audio-Techinca M20X - Cambridge SoundWorks speakers w/ woofer

Idk anything about apple products. :D But I DO know that you should avoid the 12 inch Macbook at all costs, it is just BAD.

I would love to help you out. But I cannot see myself writing the words, "recommend" and "an Apple product" in the same sentence unless they come after the word "cannot".

A Macbook pro, a used one with a good CPU and Ram and than upgrade the harddrive yourself or maybe a SSD.Or the is also the possibility of getting like a Dell XPS with a nice hugh res screen and making a hackintosh?

I'm in the same boat. It's impossible to recommend a Mac at full retail price, there's just so many better options at better prices. But again, if you go used, you're still overpaying (IMO) but at least it's not as bad.

Yes I have used Macs extensively... The only good thing about them is that they are Linux based, which they limit way more then they should taking away the many advantages of Linux. I could list for days why he should get something other then a Macbook.

mac book pros are good on the long run, my late 2013 macbook pro 15 inch  is still running extremely well bonus combined with solid build quality, i would argue best build laptop in the market is MacBooks.

new apple products are terrible value. if you are willing to lay down multiple grand on a laptop, you might aswell go for quality components..

2015 mac books are still awsome, sadly they screwed over 2016 models and made a hipster "pro" laptop.
