1. You get labeled as crazy and/or paranoid if you express belief that the US Government is spying on you.

2. People care more about protesting the latest Trump tweet than they do a direct invasion of their own privacy.

 

I mean come on, people willingly buy devices that they know are recording them like the echo and Alexa.

The big issue IMO is this :

Instead of disclosing these vulnerabilities, they kept them to themselves so they could keep exploiting them.  That puts everyone at risk. 

their track record is good and very astonishing indeed, but as always leaks and rumours should be handled with care, no matter the source.

the amount of trust people have in the government is indeed amzingly high, but then again if you hear how childeren are thought to be american, a patriot and say the pledge of honor at (certain) schools everyday it comes close to indoctrination/brainwashing.

This is one huge leak.

Some random thoughts while looking through the documents.

 

1) This leak is a pretty huge testament to proper E2EE. Both WhatsApp's and Signal's encryption most be really good for the NSA to actually just don't bother trying to break it and instead try and do very targeted attacks which relies on compromising the devices (and thus get the messages before they are encrypted, or after they are decrypted). It would be far more convenient for them to decrypt messages mid-transit, but it seems like that's not possible.

 

2) Why are so many exploits named after Pokemon?

Dugtrio

Lugia

Snubble

Spearow

Starmie

The list goes on.

 

3) There are a lot of things WikiLeaks have not posted yet. Some very, very dangerous things. For example there are a ton of Windows "backdoors" (don't know if they are intentional or not) which could be really bad. For example Artillery and Calvary are two different methods of bypassing UAC (as in, gain admin privilege silently and without user input). There is also some very interesting things they do with Windows theme files.

A major revelation of these leaks (well, I was already saying it, as were others, but other people thought it was conspiracy) is that the CIA definitively poses as Russia (and other countries) and uses their hacking tools and techniques, to create the impression of Russian (or other nation) fingerprints on their hack jobs.

Honesty what do they do with these tools? How can they legally stand in court if you they say we illegally took control of your smart appliances to spy on you to get evidence to find you guilty? Also what is the outcome of these tools? ISIS uses twitter for recruitment and talking to each other yet you have to spend billions of dollars of tax payer money to make my fridge listen to me?

Well I looked into this more and apparently North Korea has been launching missiles but the US is basically pulling another Stuxnet. Kim personally ordered the assassination of the top 7 leaders in his group with an anti aircraft gun because he though they were spies. They are also russian missiles russia sold them sooooo.

I have a samsung 4k smart tv, with a voice command thingy in the remote lol. I should probably stop getting drunk and saying weird things into it.

 

I assume most people don't say anything about this type of deal is because most of them do not want to upset their comfortable life style. It is easy to just sit around and say "Oh it probably doesn't really hurt anything that much" then it is to actually do something.

1) This leak is a pretty huge testament to proper E2EE. Both WhatsApp's and Signal's encryption most be really good for the NSA to actually just don't bother trying to break it and instead try and do very targeted attacks which relies on compromising the devices (and thus get the messages before they are encrypted, or after they are decrypted). 3) There are a lot of things WikiLeaks have not posted yet. Some very, very dangerous things. For example Artillery and Calvary are two different methods of bypassing UAC (as in, gain admin privilege silently and without user input). There is also some very interesting things they do with Windows theme files.

 

 

1) Thats the main thing im hoping companies are going to take from this leak. Strong data encryption works really well and they should impliment it much more than is currently (Pretty sure its only 50% of websites currently using SSL)

 

2) From the amount of gif reactions in the leak i'd guess its a combination of bored nerds and spare time :P

 

3) I really hope Wikileaks makes contact personally with a lot of the larger companies to show them the vulnerabilities before they're ever shown to the public. Whether they'll actually do this is a completely different matter....
