Why isn't there another OS making company to rival MS? I mean Mac doesn't count, Linux is open source. What else is there?

Because Microsoft used illegal methods of killing competition a long time ago, and now they are too big to fail (unless the PC desktop and laptop market fails).

A thread complaining about something that can be complained about.

If you don't like something. Don't use it. Very simple.

I see more and more people say this every passing year and I honestly don't understand why.

Is it just an easy way of deflecting any criticism? All of a sudden it's not Microsoft's fault they are doing something bad. It's your fault for using their product!

Criticism is a very important tool for both consumers and the developers. It is how the developers gets to know what the users wants/don't want, and how they can improve their product. Making a good product is beneficial for both parties, and criticism can most certainly lead to products getting better.

Here is a quote from Chris Roberts that I really like:

Quote

I don't mind people having negative and positive [opinions] as long as you're constructive in doing it, because it shows investment.

If you think that people shouldn't complain when a company is making their product worse, then you show a complete lack of investment in both the consumers and the company.

Because clearly you do not care about what they do with their product, or how it affects consumers. Like a apathetic person who just stands there looking as his best friend who is drunk as hell shouts "who wanna bet I can drive all the way home using only my feet?".

A real friend would go "that is a terrible idea. Stop it right now.". They wouldn't go "meh... I guess I'll have to get a new friend".

Don't use what?  Windows?  File Explorer?  It's kinda hard to avoid if they get pushy about it...

Windows. But forget I commented, it was a spur of the moment comment.

It would be a very different world if the vast majority of programs were also available for Linux...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I understand the OP's frustration and yes there needs to be a wider availability of OS's to chose from that are as compatible with other software as Windows.

Microsoft did well to monopolize on the market when it did, just unfortunate that it hasn't kept up with quality over quantity.

I will try ti refrain from spur comments in the future they are unhelpful and it was stupid of me. :| *self shame*

Here, uncheck this option:

And here is Microsoft talking about back in August 11, 2016:

If you turn of that sync provider option, I think it disables more than unwanted ads. At least that's what I read that somewhere else.

Anyways, a person should not have to opt-out of advertisements in their personal OS environment - they should be opt-in, if there at all.

Imo it would be fine as opt-out if there was an obvious way to turn them off from any of the ads that show up.
