Custom Desk with and open design "resurrection" WATER COOLING IS HERE!!!

Resurrection

Thank you everyone for 1,200 views in four days it makes me very happy that so many people are interested in my desk!

Yes there are a growing amount of desk builds on the forum but they are all different but mine will be the most different.

Since the main building of the desk is done i will turn my attchen to water cooling this beast Bellow are my plans that i have for the water cooling parts fell free to suggest other parts and give reasons why the part is better.

Plans for water cooling

  • Cpu Xspc Raystorm or Swiftech APOGEE HD ultimate exterme preformance in black (i think they could have used a longer name for it)
  • Gpu EK-FC670 GTX DCII-Nickel
  • Mother board i will be using the built in water cooling I have a maximus 5 formula witch i believe has a copper pipe in it.
  • Ram I am not planing to water cool the ram but i may change my mind.
  • Rads 2 Alpha cool NexXxos xt 45 full copper 306mm
  • pump Mcp655
  • Res Bitspower Water Tank z 250 clear acrylic
  • Tubing Primo flex advanced lrt bloodshed red or some kind of ridged tubing.
  • Fittings what ever as long as they look nice
  • Fans Bit Fenix spectre pro fans black i want them to be almost silent well quiet enough that i dont hear them with open style headphones on. i think I will to undervolt them to 7v if anyone has experience with these fans or any other fan like the noise blocker black silent pros please tell me how they are and if you like them. i would like the fans to be at most $20 each i would prefer $10-$15
  • Fluid i will probably just go with distilled of de ionized water with a silver coil in it.

I have never made a water cooled system before so im not 100% sure on the parts I will not buy all the parts at once i will probally get enough for cooling the cpu first then the gpu later since the gpu is quiet its an asus direct CUII 660ti.

I have made some designs on Google sketch up and i think i have came up with a version that i like.

CAUTION Pictures not taken with super fancy DSLR camera. OH NO!!! ;)

So far i have some of the parts i still have to a couple things before i start building the desk but i got most of the computer stuff from a giant new egg, amazon and NCIX shipment a couple days ago.

Why the open design? Did you think of dust? Protecting the components?? Just curious of what you had in mind.

Cool idea non the less. Wish i had the money to finish my desk.

Cant wait to see the finished product!

I have added what i want the top of the desk to look like the the google sketch up model. The poles are made of metal and the distances away from the edge and the position is not exact and will change in the final design.

Capture2_zps3b17d9af.png

the middle of the top will be glass and the top is only supported by the post hence the open design.

Cant wait bud.

Have you looked at my build?

Ya your desk looks good. I haven't decided if i am going to do rubber tubing or rigid tubing for the water cooling. Your "bad" weather looks pretty nice for me, i live in south Florida and it is still in the 80's with a lot humidity.

That sounds like good weather to me! lets switch! haha!

Im using copper for mine, but i kinda wouldn't recommend it since its hard to bend and seal. so it wont corrode.. but it looks really cool once you do it.

Thanks for the support on my build!

I hope this work good for ya!

So I went to the home depot and it turns out that wood is expensive, so instead of building it from scratch I will be using an old desk that i have laying around. the problem is that it is painted which means if i want to make the desk look good which i do i will have to strip the paint of of the desk and that will take a long time hopefully the paint comes of fast.

I have finally striped the paint off of the desk and sanded it with 320 grit sand paper so that it is ready for per staining which is a like a stain but it just opens the pours of the wood so that it will absorb the stain a lot better.

unfortunately i found out that i need to pre staining some types of wood after i finished staining my wooden computer case "woody" (build log herehttp://linustechtips.com/main/topic/26658-fully-wooden-computer-case-woody/) I realized that the stain looked clouded and smudgy. So i looked around online and found that i should of uses pre stain so that it would look a lot better. So hopfully the internet is right and it turns out much better than last time.

By the way the desk is made out of pine which is a pretty soft wood.

I have stained the desk today so far the color i chose looks great it is just what i wanted.

I'm uploading pictures of the hard drives and the ssd mounts (curse slow internet). I worked on them yesterday and today. The mounts are all back but there are a few issues with the spray paint flaking off. even though i used self etching primer before i painted it.

First up are the SSD brakets. They are made of bent metal bar that is and inch wide or 25mm ish for you metric people. i bent the bar to angle that i thought would let me see the ssd from looking down frome the top of the desk and looking at it from the front.

IMG_5835_zps481cd748.jpg

IMG_5834_zps40f314b3.jpg

and this is what it will look like once the ssd is mounted

IMG_5836_zpsb7dd60af.jpg

This is the finished product the only thing left to do is to mount it to the desk and for that i need to go buy so nutserts.

IMG_5829_zpsac9848d0.jpg

I have already mounted the hard drives and i was test fitting them to see how big i need to make the hole to hide the cables so i decided to take a couple pictures.

I'd be concerned about dust here.

But I like it, especially because of the 660 Ti DirectCU II <3 .

I kind of expect dust to accumulate on the glass or on the wood where the mother board will go. and if that happens i could just use a swiffer duster wand thing to take the dust off i would use my air compressor with a air filter and a dehumidifier that is apart of the air loop to dust it off if it after a couple of months once it becomes a problem. hopefully the air hose will be long enough to come from garage to my computer room.
