Some of Asus Strix back plate is RGB too. When it's done right, it looks nice. Zotac's one don't look bad either.

To be fair that's not really EVGA's fault, a lot of 970s struggle to get good OCs.

EVGA put a really weak 4-phase VRM and two heatpipes don't contact the core fully on their SC, which is why they came out with the SSC model right after I got my SC. The SC overclock like crap unless you get a golden sample.

Wow that looks nice.. EVGA, can the sff community have a single fan 1080 now?

Wouldn't that get too hot with only 1 fan?    Or be really loud?

What! Only 3 fans!?

Pfff...

It looks like a sci-fi gun.  lol

I'm just sad of the death of 4" wide/tall cards.

Couldn't case makers just nudge up the size of cases a tiny bit to compensate?

It looks cool but I have to wonder about the cooling ability.  We've already seen questionable fan designs from EVGA recently in the past

  Reveal hidden contents

And it seems to me, the shroud being full of holes as it is here is just going to let air that the fans pushed toward the heatsink effectively bounce back out of the card.  The air needs to be sealed in somewhat for the static pressure fans to force it through.

What I wonder is what the fan size will be?    I think someone had pointed out to me a while back that 3 fans on a GPU would mean they'd be smaller and thus louder than 2 larger fans.

That looks way too bulky.  Like it could snap the PCIE slot right off the motherboard.

You are correct lol. It came from the Bob Seger song "like a rock". I believe it was started in 98-99 with the new body style pick-up.

I didn't even know anything about the commercial contest.

I was making a terrible joke about that card being bulky and it hitting someone.

Do you guys think itl be worth picking this up if I'm just going to rip off the cooler and put a waterblock on it? I bet it will have a stronger powerphase setup/ double 8 pin.

Not really. Just get a FE and be done with it. More compatibility. You could have a 500 phase VRM and it's not gonna do jack since all cards top out around ~ 2100.

?Card heats up and da blue screen come.

Add one fan, two fan, three fan more!

Ears blown out with the jet loud fans.?

Okay, actually ... I'd really like to see very efficient video cards, so that ones with coolers like these:

15-158-241-04.jpg

galax_geforce_gtx_1050-1.jpg

gtx590-bare.jpg

At around $200-300 or so

Can run the latest AAA titles all maxed out

  • At the max resolution possible for each display
  • Never dipping below the max refresh rate
  • (Even with Luke's Crysis barrels & other scenarios,
  • on the oldest board & slowest CPU that the card will physically install)
  • On as many displays as how many ports will physically fit on the I/O area
  • While remaining cool enough so someone as young as Linus's kids can hold their bare hands on the VRMs & GPU die while running a Furmark equivalent, without it feeling too uncomfortably warm.

:)

Think we will ever see high-end cards that are that power efficient, so they dont even NEED heatsinks?

A 500 phase VRM would be horifically useless :P The amount of doublers required would be huge due to the fact that you can only get 8 phase controllers at most.

I know. I was exaggerating a bit there. Of course a 500 phase would make the PCB 10 times the size it is now. xD
