First AM4 ITX board appears - Uses x370 Chipset

goodtofufriday

So where previously stated only the X300 and A320 would be ITX chipsets, it seems BioStar found it appropriate to use the X370 ATX chipset instead. Got no complaints for me here, super hyped about this as I want an ITX AM4 Build.

What are the differences between x370 and x300? I thought x300 was just x370 with less lanes for obvious reasons.

We don't actually know. As far as I can tell we still don't know specifics about the itx chipets.

There's also a B series ITX board from Biostar as well. It's essentially the same, but less throughput for the m.2 slot. Nice to see they're actually kicking around, though I'd never buy a Biostar board.

Also not a fan of the m.2 slot on the back, and it looks like it might be a touch lacking when it comes to USB ports.

le sigh.

dat 4 pin CPU power connector...

i've had an i7 4770 on a 4-pin for years on end running 24/7, while not ideal, it's probably fine.

and it's biostar, they have catch up to do on this field, they'll learn :D

To overclock Ryzen you do need a high(-ish) end motherboard though, so you might not be able to get the most out of your CPU with an ITX board...

i could think of a few things. it's not because you dont want it, that it's useless.

think of it like steak tartare, chances are you dont want to eat raw meat with an egg slapped on top, but someone else migh, and it's those people that these things are made for.

How do you know that? While the motherboard in the picture only have a 4 pin eps connector im sure there will be mobos with 8 pin. Plus not everyone wants to overclock

I read an article that said that to get the most out of Ryzen you need a higher end AM4 board...

Yes, but if you want to game on a Ryzen chip, you have to overclock it to get the best possible experience....

to get the most out of lga1151 you technically need an atx mobo as well, unless you find a way to stuff all those chipset lanes onto a smaller board.

biostar, IMO, is the only component brand that's still interesting, not because of what they make, but because they still "make" at all. they all but disappeared off the market when i got my rig, and now it seems like they're coming out of nowhere with niche, but VERY nice boards.
