Is Bulk Thermal Compound Worth It?

Hey Linus,

If your interested in giving it another whirl...

Innovation Cooling, LLC  IE: IC Diamond publishes  thermal conductivity of 4.5 W/m-K.

This stuff: http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/t-global-technology/S606C-30/1168-1382-ND/3042211 is 5.0 W/m-K.

And this stuff: http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/t-global-technology/TG-NSP-60-1LB/1168-2116-ND/5280212 is 6.0 W/m-K.

We've used both at our lab in Victoria with good results. Also next day shipping with Digikey ;)

I already unsubbed couple of days ago

if Linus can't keep it professional, I have no interest in his videos

Linus could make his videos in his pajamas and I'd still probably watch. You unsubbed because he makes goofy faces in his thumbnails?

Linus,

I doubt if it is a thermal compound. I looks exactly like a copper based anti-seize compound.

Example http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2-LB-CAN-Loctite-N-1000-High-Purity-Copper-Based-Anti-Seize-Lubricant-32-oz-/221415334791?hash=item338d61e387:g:XmsAAMXQrhdTSeZ8

You should buy one and compare it to the one you got.

P.s. I suggest you put it in a syringe and then apply it to the cpu

You made that Razer Blade look better for 1 min, and then you had to ruin it by removing the compound.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

He paid 90$ for 1000 grams of thermal compound, what you linked is for only 100 grams...

AH, that makes much more sense. Haha, good catch. My bad.

Anyway, doesn't matter, I already win the thread with the 9.07 kg can of thermal grease/paste for $360 .. that's 4 cents per gram, or 16 cents for a 4g syringe.

Yeah, @LinusTech , that looks to me more and more like those anti-seize copper based lubricants and not actually thermal greases or pastes. Maybe it was removed from Amazon later because of a bad labeling/complaints?

You could probably check with a multimeter on resistance mode if the paste is conductive (if it has copper in it, it probably is to some degree, which would be a bit dangerous).. put the probes on random places in a drop of that paste and if the resistance is small, the paste is probably conductive, where a regular thermal grease/paste should practically be like an insulator, should have a high resistance

That is exactly what I thought!
Couldnt find such a bulk deal available in the UK, but if he paid 90$ for $10 worth of anti-seize?

Boy have you been shafted.
And I dont mean a gentle rogering I am talking rough end of a rough sawn barge pole, splinters and all being shot up there with an air cannon.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!

  • 1 year later...

GD900 is pretty good it's close to ARCTIC MX-4 all thoigh it's NOT cheaper it is only if you use it for 'ONCE'

ARCTIC MX-4 is best one for the money/performance easier to clean cheaper than Innovation Cooling Graphite
