Ever run your pc with out a case?

Aleks NE

My case cables set on fire and melted while i'm waiting for another one i decided to put my motherboard in the box and run it in there, it's all on an antistatic bag that the motherboard comes with to reduce the risk of anything going wrong, i was wondering if anyone else has run their pc like this or without a case, I've also noticed that my temps are a lot lower than normal 13 to 20 on the CPU and the highest on the GPu was 25...

Shouldn't be a problem, but of course there's the risk of random stuff accidentally touching/falling onto it. Cases are mostly to protect the hardware. Also about temps, that means the airflow on your old case was not ideal and the heat couldn't be transfered to the evironment fast enough.

Every computer I build is run out of the case and on a box before I assemble it.  I don't put an anti-static bag under the motherboard though as the "anti" part only applies to the inside of the bag.  I just set the board directly on the motherboard box for a few hours of testing.

Yeah it was a pretty cheap case i sort of run out of money when building my pc.

I could be wrong about this but I think I heard on a Linus video years ago that only the inside of an anti-static bag has anti-static properties. I suspect the cardboard may be a safer surface than the outside of the bag.

Well, the box is non-conductive and good enough :)

Yep, I do it quite often actually! I generally breadboard my builds before I put them in the case to make sure everything is working or if there is something I need to troubleshoot. Running it on the box it comes with is fine but as mentioned, only the inside of the bag has anti-static properties so definitely don't be using that in the future.
