Do you think NVIDIA or AMD will release another Dual GPU card?

I am more curious on how the forum feels on this.

I never bought a Z card and may never because of the cost and did not think they were much needed in any use case I can think of.

Yes I really think they should. at least then we don't technically have to SLI. Instead it's integrated on the board.

AMD just did, Nvidia has really stopped. I doubt that they would it. They can't sell a $1200 Titan XP and expect people to buy a $3000+ Titan XPZ. The 295X2 and Pro Duo's pricing was on point.

I think the 690 was probably Nvidia's most successful dual GPU card. It was priced well ($1000) and had performance that beat out the Titan.

The 295X2 sold fairly well, I think they should continue with it.

There's rumours of a dual Vega card. Plus, they've done it with almost every generation now

Actually I think the Titan Z alone still has way more power then a GTX 1080.

Nope. It's based on two Titan Blacks (effectively 780Tis with 3GB more vRAM) Those even with great SLI scaling aren't close.

I think Z cards were meant for a time where 4k was unobtainable at 60fps and high settings, so companies threw hail maries trying to see how far they could get. Now that the 1080 and soon to be 1080ti are out, and the fact that 8k really isn't a thing, companies don't have to make Z cards.

AMD's far more likely to, and for good reason. AMD's dual GPU cards have seen mostly positive results across all their cards, mostly due to Crossfire on an interposer scaling well and overcoming some of the support issues that Crossfire over PCIe or a dedicated bridge, and SLI see. SLI on a dual GPU card, however, hasn't exactly worked in Nvidia's favor outside of fringe cases.

 

However, I don't expect any dual GPU gaming oriented cards any time soon, unless AMD really wants a Titan XP competitor and can somehow make scaling and support between two GPUs on one PCB nearly flawless in gaming. I expect something more along the lines of a Radeon ProDuo 2 with Vega, with gaming drivers available for those that just want to be baller.

The Titan Z was totally outrageous. The 295X2 and 690, however, were not, at least not to the same extent. I hope they do. Let's shatter some records!

Even still, the Titan Z is doing better than the gtx 1080.

The FPS is about the same, within 5 FPS of each other.

The GTX 1080 does quite better at 4K, it seems. But it's weird. Only around 60% of the 1080 is being utilized at 1080p.

Consistent 4K60 @ high/ultra settings really isn't obtainable today, without running two Titan XP cards in SLI. There has to be some compromise with a GTX 1080. A single XP will have little compromise now, but 4K gaming is still becoming more demanding

 

Also, dual GPU cards aren't always created for gaming, or their strong suits aren't gaming. The Radeon ProDuo falls in that first category, and the Titan Z is some where in between. They can be created to boost FP16/32/64 numbers when a more powerful single GPU isn't possible or practical.

Until we come to a point where multi gpu setups can become a 100% cost effective solution, I will always buy a more powerful single gpu over a multi gpu setup.
