A Question for you Americans

A question for you Americans or anyone who lives there or knows this.

Why in America, for electronics people don't pay taxes? Or do you but it's not when you buy a product but some time after? Or the tax is 2% or 3% so you barely notice it? How does the system work over there?

By tax, i mean the VAT. The Value Added Tax.

We do pay tax, But no VAT. Where I live it's around 10%.

We pay Tax. We just have state taxes and then local taxes. If I order something online it'll be for example. $699 plus 7.25% (I live in California) for a total of 749.68. because the sales tax varies by state the Prices are shown without tax.

We do pay taxes on electronics. It depends if the company we are buying from operates in the same state that you reside. For example, let's say I buy something from B&H Photo online and have it shipped to me. Since B&H operates in New York, and I live in Florida, and they don't have any operations here in Florida, they are legally not obliged to charge sales tax. Same goes with Newegg, since Newegg operates in California and a couple other states.

There is no VAT, but you may have to pay sales tax depending on the state.

 

If you're in California, you also have to pay an "electronics waste disposal fee". I guess that's to pay for all the electronics waste drop-off events that happen.

Unite states is an actual capitalist country, you dont pay taxes for consume like bullshit third world countries do, only taxes for income.

 

Here in Brazil, the country with biggest taxes in the occident, we pay heavy income taxes and heavy consume taxes, so every body buys pirated stuff to avoid the consume taxes resulting in piracy being huge here and the government not cashing up as much money from consume taxes as it wanted, does it lower the taxes then to increase formal consume? No, it simply rises it sky high to make up over taxing the little who insist in going legal lol

It's actually cheaper to buy Japanese made Electronics in America than it is to buy them in Japan.

We [in the US] pay a sales tax and that is dependent on each states sales tax percentage, it ranges from 4-15%. In Iowa its a 5% sales tax unless your in Polk county (City of Des Moines Iowa's Capital City) then its 6%.

The US has no VAT.

Specify which Americans you speak of. Canadians, US, Mexico or any of the South American Countries ... American is such a general term. America is a continent and there are 2 of them North America and South America ...

We pay a sales tax on all purchases, less most online purchases in most areas. The sales tax is set by the state in which a purchase is being made.

This is completely false, infact, we are taxed at almost every turn. We have sales taxes that apply to every item, yearly land taxes, yearly automobile taxes, special taxes that you have to pay to own certain items, income taxes, and business taxes.

Of those, three are controlled by the federal government: Special taxes, income taxes, and business taxes. However, states can charge additional "special taxes", income taxes, and business taxes as well.

Uhm, what? Of course taxes are paid on items. That's so far from correct it's not even funny.

 

As for heavy income tax, you get taxed a maximum of 27.5% on your income.

In Canada the income tax goes as high as 29%.

If your social security tax is added on top, then it's a maximum of 38.5%.

Canada? That can go as high as 47.7%.

So who has it worse income tax wise?

Calm down there buddy. Canada might reside in North America, but their citizens are Canadian. Mexico might reside in North America, but their citizens are Mexican. No need to over-complicate it with unneeded semantics.

Here by a much higher margin, since you get a huge public service from it while here Brazil this entire money gets wasted in a way every public service from security, education to health is deficient forcing the population to pay twice for everything since they need to go private.

Also you only taken into counter income taxing, the consume taxing margins here are higher while the salaries worse.

I do not even get why am I arguing with a Canadian why my country is worse than his though so Im thread drop from here.

Here in Wisconsin (and most other states) you pay Federal Income Tax, State Income Tax, Social Security, Property Tax, Fuel Tax, and State Income Tax (5.5% for Wisconsin, but differs from state to state) and some local taxes.

USA doesnt have VAT. Each state may or may not have a sales tax. For example in Michgian you pay 6%. But sales tax is not charged on all products. For example Non prepared food (Raw food) has no taxes. But all electronics do, unless I buy from New Egg, then I dont pay tax. Because Newegg does not have any warehouses in Michigan which makes them exempt from collecting taxes. Of course the state wants us to report this on our income taxes, but most people just tell the state to blow them. Sadly, Amazon is moving some operations to Michigan due to the border we have with Canada and now they have to collect tax.

Fuel tax is incorporated into the cost of the fuel most places. People will claim to not have it but they still pay it. Also hello fellow Wisconsinite
