I know there's a flood of Ryzen topics, but I always like to see exactly what people think about a big release.

 

So, the Ryzen 8-cores have been announced, and they're looking... Rather absurd. In one of my other polls, a lot of people said the 8-core part had to be $400 or less for Ryzen to be compelling, which I thought was completely and utterly unreasonable, but here we are, with a $330 8-core part.

 

I'm still waiting for benchmarks, but... Damn...

When I do my next build, I'm almost certainly going with Ryzen. Be nice to go back to AMD after 10+ years of using Intel. I've had several AMD CPUs, the last one being an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ which I replaced with a Core 2 Quad Q9550 and been using Intel ever since.

If I hadn't of upgraded to an X99 platform with a 6800k then I just might have gotten an 8 core Ryzen cpu

I don't need to upgrade but if they do compete with the likes of the 6800K ect I may upgrade to the 6800K because the prices will hopefully drop.

Yes, but probably not until late Summer or early Fall. I've been putting all my money into pre-order the Nintendo Switch with games and accessories. Had AMD accepted pre-orders before Nintendo made the Switch available for pre-order then I would have gotten a 1700X first. To a lesser extent, I am also waiting for reviews of the Biostar mATX board. At this point, I might as well just wait until the new GPU's are released.

I just pre-ordered the x1700 so you better bet that I'm getting one! It's going in my new Ryzen build. Hopefully it can cut my video render times in half, but that remains to be seen. Now to just get the AM4 mount for the Alphacool Eisbaer 360 in time!!

if i haven't got 5820k i probably would seriously consider 1800x/1700x after seeing reviews. Intel still selling two cores for premium fuck them

Ya.  It oc like Broadwell so I expect mid 1800 to low 1900. On phase I am wanting 2k. It all depends on the chip.  You have to remember that the 5960x that oc well are all later batches. All the first batches oced like Haswell 4770k did.  Also with new bios and cpus everything is always shakey,  even now x99 is not a very stable platform.

I have 6800k also and I'm thinking to upgrade to Ryzen. Do you think I should or shouldn't? If so, why? 1700x is very compelling, and I don't have to sell it now, I could replace first and then sell the Intel stuff after... Hmm..
