Which is what I was afraid of, but as long as those R3 and R5 chips launch before may I wont complain. I'm looking at the R3 1100 for $129 for a budget build, and a quad core at that price would be awesome.

shame they're releasing the R7 processors first as the R5 is the sweet spot for me imo, but meh, I can't complain

Hmm I think the i7 6800K is pretty much irrelevant now, 6 more threads at the same clocks from the Ryzen 7 1700X and 50 USD less! If the IPC gains hold it's pretty much dead at that price.

Part of the reason why we need the market to be shaken to its core.

I wouldn't say clock for clock since DigitalFoundry did a test between all generation of i7s from 2nd to 6th gen (Skylake) at the same frequency of 4.4 and performance difference widens in CPU intensive games such as GTAV. 

 

I do know DDR4 RAM helped the 6700K's performance by a lot but I include that as part of its single threaded performance.

I do understand what you are saying about Ryzen having Haswell/Broadwell IPC shouldn't be that big of a deal, but it always bothers me when people say the IPC improvement from 4790K and 6700K is nil at the same frequency.

unless they have been sandbagging for years and have something incredible with the 8th gen cpus i don't see how they will be competitive if they don't change their pricing.

As much as I hate AMD I have to give them a thumbs up for following through with their hype.

 

Finally a time where AMD is actually giving intel some competition and will now force intel to respond.

Looks great and very disruptive.  After max overclocking it looks to be about 10-15% behind Intel in single threaded performance - we'll see for sure once independent reviews come out - but for most people, even many gamers, that's not going to matter much considering the huge price deltas.  I don't think Intel will have a choice but to significantly cut its prices.

 

I hope AMD is able to disrupt the mobile CPU space just as much.  I'll be in the market for a new laptop in the next year or two and Intel charges ludicrous prices for mobile parts, even wimpy 2c/4t SKUs.  How about a low power 4c/8t part for $150-$175?

 Seems Like the cheaper 8 Core being clocked lower side and the lower IPC it will not game as good as  6700k or even 6600k due to single thread performance ,  This is a guess but overall seems single threaded applications or ones that wont work across that many cores Intel will lead the advantage.

I'll admit that in some cases the gains are not 0. But I don't think they are worth the upgrade either, as most game won't even use the gains.
