Good price for this build?

yanfqc

Hi!

I'm looking to buy a used pc, and I'd like to have your feedback on it!

Case: Corsair Spec 01
Processor: i5-4690k 3.5GHz
GPU: GTX 960 MSI 2G
MB: Asus Z97-E
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 X Series (2x8 Go)
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 240 G
Air Cooler: front Fan Corsair and back Fan Cooler Master Master Pro Series 4. 2 more fans can be added
Power Supply: Corsair 550 watts

All of that for 800$ CAD, the guy bought it last year.

I believe it is a good deal, but one of my friends is not impress at all by the price/performance ratio... so yeah, I just wanted to know if I'm getting screwed!

Thanks for your help! :)

Wow! I didn't expect to have answers that quickly, thanks!

I agree that buying each part separately would probably be cheaper! The thing is I'd prefer an already assembled pc, I don't want to buy all separately and then assemble it since I don't know enough about pc part to be able to choose compatible part at a price that makes sense... So considering I can launch a game on that pc before I buy it and that I don't have to double check for compatibility issues, I'm ready to "overpay" a bit to take the easy road.

At what price would you say its worth buying?

Again, thanks for your answers :)

For a reference, 800$ CAD is about 600$ USD

I would say 650-700 cad would be preferable, since a simliar system new (Using current gen parts) is about $900 cad give or take, and paying 80% of new prices is the norm for the used maket

Hmmm. It seems a little on the high side. I'd keep looking.

Where do you live? That can greatly change the value of the system based on local market conditions etc.

Have you ever put together Ikea furniture, or a Lego set? Then you can build a computer. It's really stupidly easy.

I taught my ex how to build one in about 45 minutes. She'd never seen the inside of a PC before.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($296.99 @ DirectCanada)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($35.84 @ Vuugo)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($131.09 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($119.98 @ DirectCanada)
Video Card: Asus Radeon RX 480 4GB Dual Video Card  ($249.50 @ Vuugo)
Case: NZXT S340 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($71.24 @ Amazon Canada)
Power Supply: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($74.98 @ NCIX)
Total: $979.62

Take this for example. Yes, it's almost $300 more, but it's a considerably better performer. The RX 480 is much better, the SSD is much better, case is "nicer", and you're on newer architecture.

If you didn't want that much power, this is very close to what the other costs.

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 35.1 CFM CPU Cooler  ($23.41 @ DirectCanada)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($131.09 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($107.00 @ Amazon Canada)
Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card  ($169.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case  ($49.99 @ NCIX)
Power Supply: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($74.98 @ NCIX)
Total: $853.45

1050Ti still performs substantially better than the 960, and has double the VRAM.

Thanks again for your answers!

I live in Quebec city!

Here's a link to pc offer on kijiji if you want to take a look http://www.kijiji.ca/b-ordinateurs-de-bureau/ville-de-quebec/c772l1700124?ad=offering

When I check at all these offers, I don't see something that is "significantly" a better deal, considering I don't want to go over 900$-1000$

Is it just me or are they all a bit overpriced in my area?

And yeah, I didn't turn toward new computer since tax and shipping cost aren't budget friendly...

Thanks again for your feedback!

I wouldn't buy it since the performance of the GTX 960 isn't the best you can probably get in that budget.
