i3-6100 or i5-3330

First time poster, so please be gentle. =)

I'm working on putting together a mini-itx personal rig to replace a 7 year old laptop. I'll be using it for browsing, media, and light gaming. I have a desktop pc that is never used, so I'm trying to decide if I should reuse the i5-3330 and 8GB of DDR3 from it and buy a mini-itx board, or if should spend the extra money on an i3-6100 with a board and DDR4. I'm looking at getting a 1050 or 1050ti if that matters.

Any thoughts on this? It's about $100 USD cheaper to use my existing components, but it seems to be pretty slim pickings for lga1155 boards. I also don't know what would be better from a performance perspective either.

i don't know but i would assume that an i3-6100 would be a better performer than an i5-3330, it depends on what "light gaming" you are planning on doing

Performance difference will be small but seemingly in the i3 6100's favor. I would take whichever option is cheaper.

but you would need a z board, which means that you will spend more money

Thanks for all the feedback so far! For the budget, I'd like to spend around $600 or less PRE-OS not including monitor or peripherals. As for what I mean by light gaming, mostly rhythm games, 2d fighters, and older single player stuff like Dark Souls. I'll be building a proper gaming rig on a $1000 budget for the living room at a later date.
