Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Im going to build my friend a gaming rig since his old went to hell and he didnt buy a new one, he talking about gettin a ps4 so ive decided that he really needs a pc :P

Got hold of some used AMD parts(and i now ryzen drops soon, but i have no intension in waiting for that.)

So I got a

Asus SAbertooth 990fx REv 2.0 (i think)

AMD fx8320

Corsair Vengance 2x4 GB DDR 2400 Mhz ram

Corsair h100i 240 AIO

Im planning to use a 550 watts psu from corsair that i have lying around, will the cooling and power be enought to push some good oc on the cpu? or do i need a bigger psu :P

The GPU i havnt decided on yet, but i think like 1050Ti or something like that :P

@valdyrgramr called for our opinion in some other place.

It's possible, just don't expect too much... 550W is not that much to work with (at load) once you put in a GPU and your dives. Best bet is to see how much power you can draw from the 12V rail.

You don't need to OC for CS:GO or watching movies.  Rendering a movie, maybe.

Then doing it on the current PSU should be good enough.

I would only do a small oc like .2-3ish at first.  Problem is the 8350 is very power hungry.  Pushing 8320 and 8350 are overly power hungy when you push them to the mid to high 4.0 area.

4.2 then? god i wish i didnt sell my 4690k chip, boosted to 4.7 without any problems :/ but are 8320 and 8350 demanding the same amount of power?

Basically, the 8350 at that high is just a 9370[4.4]  or 9590[4.7].  You're sitting at a 220w TDP at that high, and probably hitting 300 something under load.  Personally, I wouldn't even OC at all on a 550w.  Really not much head room.

You can easily hit 4.5ghz with a 212 evo and 650w psu. Not sure how a 550w will do in this case but I'm sure you can hit 4.0ghz easily enough.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

Nice, 8320 at 3.5 is starting to show its age, with my 290x it bottlenecks a few titles and i've got to overclock it to 4.2 in GTA5 but with a 1050ti you shouln't run into any issues with the CPU, that system shouldn't draw  more than 350W.

What kind of deal did you get on this?
