Thank you for the reply, but did you have any exact cards you could recommend?

Negative on all of those, unfortunately. The 780 still used that monumentally dumb BTX layout, which means that a graphics card with a cooler that extends into the second slot would be unable to seat with the drive caddy in place.

@zezf, the best card I've used in an Optiplex SFF is a GT 730, and that's not really saying much. It's far from the only one out there, but a good low-profile, single slot card is hard to come by. The highest end you could find right now, short of spending $300+ (way plus) on a high-end workstation GPU, would probably be something like a 7750. I know those were made as low-profile, single slot cards. If you're not doing particularly intensive gaming, an R7 240 would work, but buy it used if you can.

then geto it. move the hard drive to the optical bay or the front 3.5in bay.

I haven't I just know that if the OP truly wants it some work will need to be done.

If someone would hurry up and release a low-profile, single slot RX 460, this would all be over and done with already. Realistically speaking, for the Core 2 Duos that those Optiplex SFFs shipped with, a GTX 750 Ti is about the top of the mountain before you reach the point of diminishing returns. If you want to swap that out with a Q6600, you can push up towards 1050/1050 Ti territory with the tape mod...but then you have the issue of a 105W CPU running well above 105W on a cooler that can't be changed and was designed for 65W. The most "practical" mod I've seen involves taking the side panel off and using a PCIe extender cable to run a 750 Ti outside of the case. Even if you do go for the taped Quad and don't melt your motherboard with it, you're still limited by the low-wattage proprietary power supply.

If one really wishes to game on an old Optiplex, and it can be done, the MT tower chassis is the way to go. You're limited to ITX-length GPUs courtesy of the BTX form factor (God's gift to motherboards), and anything other than single slot will take some modifications to make work, but you can swap in your own PSU very easily, there's plenty of room for the typical 750 Ti or 1050/1050 Ti/460, and there's more than enough airflow to keep a tape-modded Q6600 happy.
