Iphone 6 Plus - Worth it?

rasesh

Hey guys I was in need of a new phone and had someone selling his Iphone 6 Plus grey 64gb mint condition with box/accessories to me for $400 CAD.

1) Is it worth it?

2) Also what are the top things you guys would check before buying a used iphone 6 plus from someone?

It's a good phone still.  Finding whether the price is fair is as easy as checking ebay sold listings.

Make sure you can activate it.  iPhone Activation Lock can effectively make the phone unusable if the original owner doesn't a) disconnect from icloud and b) factory reset.

I would say it only is worth it if you do Jailbreak, but talking about that is against the rules therefore I will give you the short answer; no it is not worth it, Android is going to become the mainstream operating system for phones, go to programming college courses, they are teaching Android but Windows Phone and iOS are dead ends.

so you would be better off with a Lenovo, TP-LINK or even Asus phones for this price range.

How can I check something like this on the spot?

I mean how can i try to activate it on the spot?

On my previous iphone if you factory reset it and try to activate it you MUST be connected to the internet to go forward in the setup process to be able to activate it and it's hard to find free wifi somewhere and wait for the activation process.

Would $400 be worth it if i want to stick to apple?

I suppose... I would personally never pay this much for an Apple but for those who value it and dont mind being explored some [paying extra solely for a brand name] I suppose the pricing is legit.

Just make sure the phone is well cared, not scratched and such.

Yeah they need to do what Apple wants them to do if they wanna keep getting free review samples xD

Jokes aside I understand why not allow discussions about it since it does facilitate piracy.

Yeah I'd go for it, that's a pretty good price. As others have said just make sure you won't have any issues with it.

Personally I'd go to the carrier he's with and check it there, it'll also make sure that it's not blacklisted by the carrier.

As others have said, make sure there's no iCloud or anything on it.

I have another person here selling a "replacement" 16gb iphone 6 plus from apple.

I emailed the person if that means brand new sealed iphone 6 plus and they said no it's not sealed but they can show me the receipt of the replacement as they have moved onto the iphone 7 now.

What does a replacement from apple for iphone 6 plus mean exactly?

Is it smart to buy such a phone?

This is still a very grey area, the legislation towards it is different from country to country, some side with Apple and made it ilegal, others see it as one of the costumer rights... allowing it would only end up in headaches, and there still are other proper places you can get informed, google is your friend.

That usually means it is an iPhone that had its panel broken and replaced for a new one, since it isnt the factory original one you may not have the same quality but it should mostly be fine.

Yes, pretty much that... either Apple themselves or third party fixed a cracked/broken touch screen panel for reselling purposes.

yes the reason why it does not come in a sealed box is because these were faulty devices that were fixed like I said, brand new ones leave the factory straight to the shops all sealed up... since it was Apple and not third party the device should work fine, as good as new... still like I said I would just get a brand new TP-LINK Neffos C5 Max for the budget... might even cheap up some bucks for a beer [:

Yes, the iPhone 6+ is indeed a great phone, I personally used to have it, but made the switch to the LG v20 (I love it). If you're not really all into the "Techy work" that android offers, the iPhone is a great choice, but its fairly limited to customization for things such as changing the theme of it unless you jailbreak it, unlike android where you can go to the Google Play store and download/install a theme. Overall, it's personal preference, but the iPhone is indeed a great phone.

If the Replacement was never used as they claim, then I would go with it.

Yes but I have seen Apple state that it does not break any of their "rules"  or tos.

Actually apple can sue you for jailbreaking their device and in some cases it bricks the phone... hence why you have to undo the jail break before any os upgrades

I wanna get a V20 but I don't wanna pay $1900 in my currency for a phone lol

So would you buy a replacement iphone 6 plus or a normal used iphone 6 plus ?

Replacement. If it's done by the company. That way it's clean,  you don't know what people do with their phones... *shivers* Vietnam flashbacks
