Hello guys,

 

So I entertained the idea of (effectively) a snitch-o-meter on the forum to a mod, they said post it in suggestions and so here I am.

 

This "snitch-o-meter" would basically show, depending on technical limitations, either how many reports a user has submitted or how many reports a user has submitted which translated to a real world action by a mod or admin.

 

If it's the latter then that could be implemented by allowing mods or admins to check a checkbox/checkmark saying if the report led to action being taken.

 

If that is beyond the capabilities of the system then I have proposed a more feasible report counter similar to where we can see how many likes (damn i'm old lol xD)  Agrees or thumbs up someone has.

 

 

Obviously it might not be a genius idea to call it the Snitch-o-meter externally to users but perhaps instead something a little less silly :D.

So a reverse of youtube heros? 

I'm pretty certain I've only ever reported stuff of mine mostly for like removal. I don't contribute anything useful or positive to this forum

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I am not sure how that would contribute to anything except for e-peen...? 

This looks to me like a form of a public approval on who is fit to be a mod.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I wouldn't necessarily call it the reverse of youtube heroes.

 

Other People on the forum do contribute to it and so I think this could work.

Well, it could help mods or admins see if somebody has a track record of helping them for when they choose new mods.

I'm sure they have their own way of tracking who actually helps them, albeit not a public one. Best not to release all statistics/metric to the public.

Nah, although it may be useful, it doesn't say that much about the person who's being considered to be promoted to a mod as all it says is someone is very trigger happy with the report button :P

Sounds like messing with users privacy. Besides, since every report gets closed, how would this determine when actual actions are taken?

Back seat moderating is against the Community Standards which I feel something like this would promote. Just send a report and be done with it. It's not your position as a normal member to worry about moderating actions.

i like the idea, for as long as its only shown to the people who have purpose for it: the moderators.

 

it could work like a "like-dislike" ratio about how many of the user's reports have lead to action and how many were deemed unnecessary.

 

i have no idea how "overworked" the staff team may or may not be, but this could be an interesting statistic for who uses that report button with care, and who spams it every time someone disagrees with them, allowing the moderation team to "prioritize" accordingly, or even have a sensible metric to request specific users to tone down the usage of said button.

I have only once encountered a person threatening to report me because he didn't agree with me. Very strange and he kept using a tone that acted like he had all the power and was trying to blackmail me
