If handled properly, there is no chance of damage to the pins. Supplied in a protective package and should only be removed from that for immediate installation. Plus it moves the responsibility for damaged pins from the board manufacturer (scrap entire mainboard), to AMD (scrap a single chip out of thousands).

AMD said something about it being cheaper for make motherboards with the CPU's having pins. I don't remember the full conclusion.

Amazingly good looking chips. Love the 'Ryzen' branding on the heat-spreader, makes it look better than the dreary 'INTEL COSTA RICA' branding we've seen for a while.
