Proof that AI has a LONG way to go

So, all I ever watch on YouTube are tech videos (LTT, JayzTwoCents, Salazar Studio, etc.) and gaming videos (Markiplier, gameranx, Jacksepticeye).  Recently, I was watching a RandomGaminginHD video when I saw this in my recommended list:

YOUTUBE, WHAT THE HELL?!?!

Yeah.  Apparently, Microsoft thought it was a good idea to let an Internet full of idiots and troublemakers make an AI program.  Not the dumbest thing they've ever done, sadly...

From a comedic standpoint, yeah it was awesome!  Microsoft should've totally seen it coming.  Considering its intended purpose, though, it was horrible.

you keep saying it was horrible but i just cant see it in any other way but fantastic and thats not because i had any part it introducing the tay to the internet. I just sat back and enjoyed the show.

I got that same recommendation as well, from a GameGrumps video.

I think this is less to do with the algorithm in place (which has precious little to do with actual AI) and more to do with stupid promotion.

Ok, then I have a new question.  Why is YouTube promoting a video about the top 10 places to sleep when you're living in a car?

I don't follow their business practices, but there are lots of things that could make them promote a video. I know Facebook takes money to be pushy, not sure about YouTube...

I don't think that really has anything to do with AI. Isn't that more of an algorithm issue

I also got that video in my list. Watched it cuz she's cute af. Wasn't disappointed.

Because Google/YouTube are a bunch of try hard know-it-alls and think they know what you want better than you do. That, or it's an employee's favorite video that week and they want to push more traffic to it.

 

Either way, this isn't proof of AI having a long way to go. YouTube/Google are manipulating what you're seeing themselves.
