What I would like to know is, how exactly are you routing audio through the equipment? Having an 18i20 and then using a 6i6 seperately for an input seems unnecessary, since the 18i20 already has both optical and coax input. This whole setup seems unreasonably complicated for such a simple use.

I think their setup is... Mixer > Compressor > 6i6 > 18i20?.. Lol i am confused as well.. the 18i20 is not necessary.. You can check my Wan Show Setup Suggestion, there i discussed this exact thing. :D

But not if they want to use the pre-amps in any of the focusrite gear (which is mentioned as the main reason for having it, and I agree with them there).

Lol. I definitely agree.. i dunno about the 6i6 which is unnecessary in the setup. Their Mixer Can accept  proper inserts and it is Soundcraft which is one of the most robust Brand in the Audio Industry.. I'm not sure if their mixer has a built in pre-amp and compressor but if that's the case then they just don't really need the 18i20 nor the compressor.. (but i've heard that stand-alone units are quite nice),.then the 6i6 will do fine. The Mic layout confuse the heck out of me.. i keep staring at it every stream... they could have just use a boom mic instead with an X Configuration since they have a lot of channels either.... One thing for sure is.. the Guys at Focusrite did not explain it to him in a much simpler way that's why he is having a hard time putting it back at the first place..
