Worth upgrading from 1360x720 to 1920x1080p?

Nojuz

So i'm thinking about buying a new 1080p monitor (currently i'm using some grundig tv, I think it's like 25-26inch, 1360x720) for gaming. I want to ask does it make a big difference while gaming? Does 1080p eat a lot of fps compared to 720p? I want to get maybe 24inch for around 100 euros. Do you think it's worth it? Any reccomendations for a new monitor?

I think so and since there are a lot of 1080p monitors around you may as well mate, in terms of FPS loss I wouldn't worry about it unless you're using Intel HD 2000 graphics.

If you play more demanding games then now might be a good time to upgrade GPU before moving to 1080p.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Definitely worth it. You should be OK with a 750ti, but you won't be getting quite the FPS you were getting.

Main System: Phobos

Secondary System: York

Older File Server: Yet to be named

This gives 1080p performance numbers for your card.

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-maxwell-geforce-gtx-750-ti-gaming-performance-unveiled-faster-gtx-650-ti-radeon-r7-260x/
As does this: http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/radeon-r7-265-vs-geforce-gtx-750-ti-which-is-best-for-1080p-gaming

It isn't that great.

So before I say this, I own both Nvidia and AMD and I dont want to get into the GPU wars.

I would suggest you could always ditch the Nvidia card for gaming or use it in another PC or sell it.

I would buy a either Sapphire Nitro RX480 or  XFX Black Edition RX480:

https://www.amazon.com/rx480-8gb/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Arx480 8gb

with an AMD Freesync Viewsonic 1080p Monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2457-MHD-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B018MYTH9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487463203&sr=8-1&keywords=Viewsonic+1080p+amd+freesync

Make sure you use Radeon Crimson Relive 17.1.2 Driver if you do this.

This should give you a really good desktop and streaming solution, guarateed 60FPS at 1080p on most tiltles, no screen tearing because of the AMD Freesync. You will have the option of Crossfire if you want. The AMD cards usually get a significant performance increase and  run really well on Vulkan and DX12. versus DX11. In addition, they support Super Virtual Resolution so you can mimick even higher resolutions on your screen.

In my case with a pair of R9 Nanos in Crossfire I can run BF1 with Graphics set maximised at 60FPS at 4k "Super Virtual Resolution".
That monitor  it is really great for the cost. However I would go to a store and get them to take the one you will buy and check for dead pixels.

No major problem on mine, but it is so cheap, the quality of the LCD is worth checking as a precaution I think.

I don't own an RX480 but I do own a pair of R9 Nanos and know the performance of 1 Nano with these Drivers is ~ just slightly ahead of a good aftermarket RX480.

Cheers.

My laptop has a 960m in it, which it's desktop equivalent is somewhere between a R7 360 and 750ti.

I'm playing Titanfall 2 and Gears of War 4 on high settings at 60fps.

I play a lot of other new AAA games around medium settings 60ish fps.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Yes it's worth.

Basicly, because 768 is ugly shit ^^

it's just SO big pixels, SO low resolution.. it's no fun to look at it.

I saw a 15,6" Notebook with 768p resolution. That already looked disgusting tbh....

1080p is the bare Minimum, everyone should be using right now.

if your Budget allows it, i would recomment 1440p.

You will keep the monitor maybe for 5-10 YEARS, so it's worth easy. If your GPU can't handle the pixels, just reduce settings and/or resolution. Problem solved.

But outside of Gaming, 100000% Profit.

It's a little more than twice the pixels. So a little more than twice as hard to run(ish).

I'd get a 1080p monitor and just downgrade what you need to make it work.

With a system like that max settings aren't really in your reach for AAA titles anyway.

If I lower the game settings quite a bit wouldn't it look worse with 1080p than high settings with 720p

I am not sure if DSR would work with your monitor but I think you should at least investigate it.

Here is a YouTube video showing Nvidia DSR using a 720p Screen.

I did not produce the video. If you are offended by bad language in music
you may want to mute the audio.

Please let me know if it is a possible solution / works for you.
If I spend time trying to help ... I like to know if it works or not, so I learn.
I use DSR on my Nvidia 780Ti to run some applications & games on my 1080p monitor at 2K.

Cheers,

On another slightly off topic point, but given you said you have no money to spend for a new GPU.
Have you tried  Hialgo Software in any of your games?
See here: http://www.hialgo.com/home.html
Maybe with a combination of NVidia DSR and Hialgo you may get a better gaming experience until you manage to save up more money for a new GPU and monitor in future.

If you need help/advice on using DSR/Hialgo send me a message and we can take the conversation off this forum thread.

Good luck.
