MSI adds a low profile Radeon RX 460 to their lineup

AlTech

MSI has just released a new Low Profile Radeon RX 460 and it doesn't look too bad :).

This new Low Profile card is aimed to compete with the recent announcement of the GTX 1050 Low Profile cards.

The boxart provided by AnandTech shows the 4GB model but this low profile card will be available in both 2GB and 4GB capacities.

An interesting shroud..

Here's the full specs of the Low Profile card. I wish I could say that this is Baffin XT at it's finest but I can't.

This RX 460 does not follow Gigabyte's trend of releasing RX 460s with 1024 SPs enabled. This card is based on Baffin Pro.

MSI has quietly added two low-profile AMD Radeon RX 460 graphics adapters to its product family. The add-in-boards (AIBs) are powered by AMD’s latest entry-level GPU, Polaris 11. As these are base RX 460 models. they do not require PCIe power and are compatible with a wide range of computers that have enough space for a dual-slot card. The new adapters will be among the most affordable discrete graphics options today and will be aimed at those upgrading entry-level systems as well as building SFF HTPCs.

The MSI Radeon RX 460 4GT LP and Radeon RX 460 2GT LP are based on AMD’s Baffin (Polaris 11) graphics chip (896 stream processors, 56 texture units, 16 raster operations pipelines, 128-bit memory bus) clocked at up to 1.2 GHz (base/boost) and carry 2 or 4 GB of GDDR5 memory at 7 Gbps. As for connectivity, the boards have one DL-DVI-D and one HDMI 2.0 output with HDCP 2.2 support (HDCP 2.2 is required for playback of protected UHD video). When it comes to cooling, the AIBs use dual-slot cooling systems with two fans, the same as the company installed on other low-profile graphics cards. As an added bonus, MSI states that it uses MIL-STD-810G certified components to ensure a long lifespan for its LP adapters.

Over the past couple of months, MSI and a number of other companies (GIGABYTE, GALAX) have introduced low-profile graphics adapters based on NVIDIA’s GPUs - MSI is one of the first with similar LP RX 460 cards and extending its range of contemporary LP AIBs to four models. The addition of two low-profile cards to the lineup may indicate that demand for such products is relatively significant and rather stable.

Nice :). I'm personally not hugely into the RX 460 but I think the 4GB card is a real winner in the budget GPU market. This is even more true with this Low Profile card.

Cos I've seen people toss RX 460s into HTPCs or Media PCs which want to be able to game.

Yes keep the low profile cards rolling. I'm just sad that AMD still didn't release a RX 460x/RX 465, the GTX 1050 just pulls ahead but doesn't come with 4GB at the same price which is a shame.

From what we know already, they could either release an RX 475 & 485 or an RX 465.

We'll just have to wait and see.

The 4GB RX 460 seems to sit at the same price range with the GTX 1050, at least in the UK and the US.

oh ok..... the 4GB 460 is meant to be the same price as the GTX 1050Ti.

idk what's going on there. Different countries have different prices.

AMD dropped its price when the 1050 Ti and 1050 launched:

Cos the MSRP of a 460 2GB WAS $109 USD and the MSRP of the 4GB WAS $139 USD

The 4GB RX 460 generally beats the GTX 1050 whilst the 2GB trades blows with it in games which don't favor Ngreedia.

This video shows the RX 460 2GB and 4GB as well as GTX 1050 and 1050Ti and RX 470.

A lot of the low profile PCI slot cases I see around the office have two slots, so it is fine for re-purposing those (assuming it has a adequate CPU) as a gaming PC. Admittedly it won't fit in a really tight media PC case, but how many build those these days?

No they use half height PCI slots. The pic above doesn't show it, but there will be a different PCI shield shipped with the card that you will have to swap on to use with the low profile slots/
